A bunch of hand drawn drawings are on the walking wall site, $125 to $165. Not sure why some cost more but they look cool, similar to the art prints from early this year.

One is more expensive because it's larger. But then others are more expensive maybe because more work was put into them? I don't know.

Oh yeah, as soon as I saw "cipher," I figured there were some messages in there. Don't really care enough about NMH to look for them though.

This was posted by a dude in the Enthusiasts group, who spent some time trying to decode the ciphers (if they are ciphers)...

I just took another quick look at the drawings, knowing that there might be a hidden message in them. (I love solving mysteries and puzzles.) We know that there might not actually be anything to this, but for fun, I dove in anyway. I only took a quick look, but here’s what I noticed - see if this helps trigger any thoughts for anyone else. I think this gets more interesting the further down you read:

The word “double”, the numbers 1-7, the word “3rd”, lots of "?". Also, there are 3 Saturn-like planets, always in the same order, with the same labels and number of rings each time. The bottom one is labeled “1st” with 1 ring, the middle one is labeled “3rd” with 2 rings, and the top one is labeled “2nd” with one ring.

      Interesting individual notes:
1 drawing has “3rd” written 4 times with no other numbers present and one is written as “3rd?”, then the only thing else the drawing contains is “double” 3 times and has 32 question marks.
One instance of both “?28” and “91?”.
In the 4bbbb drawing, there are 7 rings, and in 4aaaa the rings are labeled “7”.
Another drawing has 7 question marks at the bottom.

awol = absent from one's post but without intent to desert (Jeff wouldn't desert us! haha).
bombe = The bombe was an electromechanical device used by British cryptologists to help decipher German Enigma-machine-encrypted secret messages during World War II (perhaps a clue to tell us to decipher these drawings).
Cassini–Huygens = January 14, 2005. Cassini–Huygens is an unmanned spacecraft sent to the planet Saturn. It is a flagship-class NASA–ESA–ASI robotic spacecraft. Cassini is the fourth space probe to visit Saturn and the first to enter orbit, and its mission is ongoing as of 2016.(Note the Saturn reference).

My favorite “clue” … the Magicicada:
Magicicada is a genus of 13 and 17 year periodical cicadas. They spend most of their 13 and 17 year lives underground. After 13 or 17 years, the mature cicada emerge.
Magicicada’s "Brood VI" is expected to finish a 17 year cycle next year, in 2017, and emerge again in northern Georgia (Athens is in northern Georgia)
Neutral Milk Hotel ended after the end of their 1998 tour… so... is 1999-2016 Jeff Mangum’s 17 years living underground?? Will he emerge with the cicada next year?? (queue Twilight Zone theme)

My theory based on all of this, is that in 2017, NMH is going to drop a 3rd album. It’ll be a double LP of unreleased tracks he wrote in between OAI and ITAOTS. (based on the “3rd” Saturn always being in the middle of the 1st and 2nd one, also it has 2 rings while the others have 1 - double).

I don't buy the "unreleased tracks between the two albums" part. They pretty much exhausted that stock with the box set.

Just seems like a lot of Internet nerds digging too deep. I would love any new music from Jeff, or a live album from their recent tours, but I'm more than thrilled to be getting a hand drawn picture exactly as it is, nothing more. Didn't hand drawn art before he returned go on eBay for like $500?

The stuff written on the drawings really has the sound of something more than just drawings, though. I guess we'll see.

i didn't see this until today. I'm shocked I was able to pick up one so much later. I got Ciper #2.
So exactly how many did he make or is he like Andy Warhol and his art factory....
Who knew that there would actually be a hell, and that it would be in New Jersey?
