Yeah, I started recording a new record, and I'm excited because it's really different from anything I've ever done before. It's going to be heavier and more chaotic and more expressionistic. I think it's going to have less lyrics and be almost more cinematic. Right now it's all these vague ideas that I have, but that's how the records normally start. I have these reference points in my head, and I start experimenting and see where it goes. I want to make something that feels very progressive and exciting and different and otherworldly and not like Kevin Barnes, not like Of Montreal. But I always try to do that, and it always sounds like Kevin Barnes. It always sounds like Of Montreal. I don't know if I can get beyond myself, but I always try.

Last time he hinted that Skeletal Lamping would sound like a funk album and it sounded kind of noisy, this time he says it's going to be noisy so maybe it'll be...I dunno...minimal?

I just hope he doesn't actually use fewer lyrics because I love what he does with vocal harmonies and just his vocal quirks so much, so that would make me a little sad. But as he himself said it's too early to judge. I think it's so admirable that he never stops creating, ever.

At some point he's bound to release something I (you) won't like. It's kind an accident waiting to happen...

You mean he's not going to keep on making music especially for me for the rest of his life?

this is the first interview i've read where i've actually been interested in the answers. i thought the questions were really good. and i seems like kevin was putting up less of an act. all the other interviews i've read have been really over the top and ridiculous. but this one he's actually talking like he's a person and not...... whats the word i'm looking for... uhm.... something that means pretentious yet kind of making fun of the person listening. manipulative? no no. that's not right either. guh. i don't know. i'll think about it more on my hour ride home on the bus...
    Double Rainbow! All the way!
    i love yue
