Hi all.
The news on the ofmontreal site is that the new album will be more electronic. Yet the last time they told us about the upcoming album, it was supposed to be a double album showcasing the dark side from of montreal. Any idea what happened? If it's been scrapped? I really hope the Pollinaire Rave songs make it.

Andy has left the band permanently right? I wonder what this does to the dynamic of of Montreal.

Member of Of Montreal > Nurse
I guess being a nurse is a more noble cause though, helping ill people and such..

Probably pays better too.
Andy does have a new Marshmallow Coast record though.

Well, yeah, but if you don't do what you dream to do then what is life good for. Most of us would probably be nurses and dream about being involved in great bands.. He just happened to be involved in great bands and dreamed to be a nurse I suppose...

From what i remember from the old message board and a brief conversation with kevin, the old plan for the new album was that it would be a two cd release with the first cd being a more upbeat classic of montreal type outing and the second disc being a more subdued or dark acousticky affair
And, segway, speaking of new albums, the new album by the Unicorns is blowing my socks off currently, fellow of montreal fans. You should all check it out.
Furthermore... It would be about the coolest thing in the world if Of Montreal and the likeminded group of pink-clad pedestrians from Montreal the Unicorns would team up for a set of tour dates following Of Montreal's new release! it would be so freaking cool if they were to visit... let's say... the midwest!
Just the best band pairing ever i'd say!

"Vis a vis the new album it won't be completely electronic or completely dark. It is kind of schizophrenic jumping from electro clash to gentle acoustic stuff to avant pop to Queen like vocal pieces to 1970's Afro beat."

Speculations about the sound of the new record aside, who's going to release it? I know OM had been unhappy with Kindercore already, but now that Kindercore's imploded, does anyone know if the band's looking for a new label, or is going to self-release future records or what?

hi, i had a nice chat with derek the other week about the new record/state of the band/etc and thought i'd throw in a few things.
apparantly the new record hasn't even yet begun, although i think there are lots of ideas/songs in the backlog that will come to fruition sometime in the near future. he said that the electronic aspec of the record is yet to be determined/interpreted and that he and kevin at least haven't even talked about that (or might have different ideas about the 'electronic' element). and since andy's not in the band anymore and jamey has moved far away from athens (and kevin's married, they've been busting out the records and touring for so long, etc) the band is going at a different pace now and that's cool with everybody.
i'm not sure what's to make of the a pollinaire rave songs or the original double album idea, as far as what will end up on the new record. anyway derek was very nice and (informative to say the least!) and was happy to tell me of some of his solo endeavors as well. i don't think any of that is necessarily going to see an official release anytime soon but i'd sure think lots of folks would LOVE to hear the different kinds of music he's been making for himself :)
actually now that i think about it i think he was saying maybe the album could see a release next spring possibly.. (?)
cheers all, mike

I prefer the notion it will be a double-disk concept album on the cycles of the moon where Of Montreal explores the most complex Prog-Rock stylings with liner notes of essays on the string theory by each member.
Dream Theater meets Devo perhaps?

hello all. I thought I should jump in and clear a few things up. the new album is almost finished. it will hopefully be released in late march or early april. we haven't yet decided on a label. it has turned out to be more of a solo album with people helping out here and there. the sound of the album is very schizo. i did some serious genre hopping. i have been influenced lately by broadcast,
tony allen, daft punk, studio one recordings,mum,manitoba... I think some of that has come through in the recordings. it isn't a double album. it will have fourteen songs on it. david and my wife nina are collaborating on the art work. we will post an mp3 on the OM page in january.
we are planning a five week tour starting in april. we are going to work really hard to make it a very special tour. hopefully david will come along as well. i'm crossing my fingers...
i hope everyone has a wonderful christmas and or hanukkah!!!
love kevin

Kevin, I just want you to know that you make my world such a great place. You are the most unique songwriter...I'm doing cartwheels over your music man.
My wife gets mad because my CD alarm clock wakes us up to My, What A Strange Day With a Swede every morning
Anything thanks for making brilliant music

Kevin, oh Kevin, please visit San Francisco again this tour. The last two years you played here on my birthday, though I was only able to make last years show. But if you want to make this three years in a row, I wouldn't mind at all!
