I really like the tone of the keyboard in the Gay Parade and was wondering what the setup was. Sorry if this question has been answered before.

There was a post earlier this year where BP Helium talked about how they had recorded each album and what equipment they had used...

ah. the baldwin explorer. that was a cool one. it's definitely that on yellow feathered loon. probably a few others. a casio ct3-something was used as the organ sound on a lot of tracks. kevin had this cheap blue plastic wurlitzer organ that was used for a few sounds. nothing really fancy. we usually ran them through tube amps and miced them to get a little grit. obviously lots of piano, a real one -kinda old and clunky.

this thread was rather helpful as i feel the next real instrument im going to be getting is a synth to go with my organ. but what i really want is my piano thats in storage though i dont have enough room for it. old and clunky indeed.

yeah, that blue synth was like a school learning synthesizer.
definitely looked like it belonged on the short bus.

derek, see ya at practice....

I just downloaded a demo of reason after seeing that its what kevin uses frequently. Ive been in the market of something just like that for quite some time. Looks like quite the steep learning curve.

Anyone have any experience with this program they'd like to share?

hey b.p. can you give me any info on the mixing and mastering process? does kevin do it himself? do you mix in cubase then do a mixdown and export it to another program to master?

Also what patches do you use from reason, which drum loops?

Sorry but i'm just really curious and getting into home recording - i've been working with Reaktor, which is pretty cool - you can build your own instruments but it works with VST's rather than rendering audio from a midi file mapped out to wav's in Reason.

Any help, advice and tips you have would be great, cause i pretty much have the same setup except for the mics.

satanic, sunlandic, hissing fauna:
mixing in cubase.
mastering by glenn schick.

kevin has moved to logic now.
