Boooo Magic Stick. I'll miss Of Montreal at the Blind Pig. :(
Nevertheless, I can't wait!

Holy shit that is one hell of a tour. I'll be there in Detroit, hopefully in the very front if things go well :)

Well, I guess I have to go to SOMA. Meh.
Still, I am excited as hell!!! It will be exactly a year and a day since you were last here, which is a significant thing in my little pagan heart.
I see that you have 2 days between your last LA show and your SD show, so PLEASE come down early and hang at our house for some R & R, and good pancakes and stuff, K?

i think i am going to have to do the troubadour/soma plan too. soma is such a bad venue, but i'll take one of my favorite bands at a bad venue any time. If you guys need anything here in sd my place is open too.
Maybe if I am superlucky, I can make it to the Milwaukee show.

After I posted that, I thought, I would go see of Montreal if they played in a rat-infested sewer, and SOMA's not THAT bad.
Now we're thinking maybe one of the other LA shows, maybe Saturday night? Let us know if you need a ride!

Isn't Red Pony Clock from San Diego? They should know a place.

ohh em eff gee. i am so excited. i liked it when you guys played free in madison at club 770. it was a fun place to see you. and your show at the abbey pub a couple years ago was awesome too. and that other time in madison. ok so pretty much every show i've seen has been awesome. cant wait to see you again!

Will any of these shows sell out soon? Also what the deal with the over 16 shows in new york. And how legitimate are they. Like can you get kids in or No?
ryanlescure
11-20-2006, 01:23 PM
Yes, Red Pony Clock is from SD, they would probably have a better idea. Epicentre is personally my favorite place, followed by the Che Cafe. Soma is not all that bad, it's just kind of a big echo-ey warehouse type building that has a floor area that goes far back and gets bad sound. Those three are the biggest of the accessible all ages venues I know of in San Diego. If only the Casbah wasn't 21+, pretty much every band I want to see plays there. If you don't mind me asking, bp, why can't you guys play the che anymore?
thelatebphelium
11-20-2006, 01:38 PM
under 16 can get in at irving plaza with a guardian.
che cafe has no proper PA and the last time
we played there, we had to turn away about 300 kids.
that's more than got into the show. granted, it was
a lotta fun, but we've outgrown that place.

Post the european dates soon :-) Maybe you could do a date in Reading, UK? :D
thelatebphelium
11-20-2006, 03:11 PM
we won't know european dates for a while.
unfortunately, we are not as popular over there.
all the good uk labels passed on the album.
so we don't have a european label.
(tomlab... i'm still rooting for you)
in any case, we do have a booking agent
over there and that's a good thing.
hopefully, we'll know more in a month or so.

Yeah, Che Cafe is a pretty terrible venue. Truth is, I don't stand a chance at any venue 'cause I'm 5'1" and unless I'm right at the foot of the stage, I can't see a damn thing. So, I don't have any advice. Maybe you could play a private party in our backyard sometime? Yeah, my neighbors would LOVE that!
Or, I could watch the show from backstage. That would be nice.
thelatebphelium
11-20-2006, 04:02 PM
harnk, how about we give you the rights to hissing fauna
for europe.
polyvinyl has distribution in europe.
in fact, we see more polyvinyl copies than track and field ones
when we go to record shops in europe.
and they can hire people to work the record over there.
track and field were great to us, but we had to move on.

I think im going to both great american music hall SF shows and maybe the santa cruz show...
if i were you theoperahouse i would go to the great american music hall shows over the bottom of the hill show, if you are only going to 2. Ive seen them at both and i have to say that the bottom of the hill is no where near as nice as great american. And they are on friday and saturday rather than thursday, but i dont know how much that matters.

ahhhh. best concert in my life. the shittiest guy in the world and a cool, freaky band called Aerial Pink opened.
this first guy went up there with a computer, said "We're gonna have a dance party", and played all other peoples music while we all sat there wanting to cry from how bad it was. He played Justin Timberlake (dont get me wrong i love JT, but he remixed it and messed it up), Fergie, Three 6 Mafia, and a buncha other shit. i wanted to leave.

For me I like bands to end earlier since the crummy trains out of London don't run past midnight which is really irritating. I may as well be living on the moon, I mean I live in a city with 3 universities and several colleges so you'd think there would be a good music scene but no bands ever play here, just London. I'm hoping OM will play ATP though, are you going to that again HH? I'm kind of annoyed that you have to pay so much extra for self catering and I bet they have those weird plugs that don't let you plug in your own kettle or toaster in the non catering rooms.

The price you pay for being first. American visitors must understand that because the London (feels wrong calling it a subway since in the uk a subway in a crosswalk under a street) Underground came first, they didn't anticipate a 24-hour system. In NY, there are two tracks in each direction so that regular (important) maintenance can be done on one track while the other still runs. What I don't understand is why London isn't getting on track. The Jubilee Line is pretty new, cutting through the heart of London and intersecting with every other line somewhere along the way, yet it still closes like everything else in London at eleven-something. Why not start the two-track system now on new lines / National Rail??? Good luck maneuvering the London bus system at night, if you're not familiar with what buses run at night, don't even attempt it, get a cab.
And I must agree that Of Montreal should try to venture into the UK more, liven it up... I don't hate the Arctic Monkeys, but if that's the newest, best thing there right now, the countryside could certainly use some Of Montreal.

Oh yeah the night buses are awful if you don't know London, I only ever get them when I'm with people who live in London. I wish they would get the underground working properly, it drives me mad that the crummy government is always going on about how there isn't any money for anything and yet the 2012 Olympics are costing billions on building loads silly things (you'd think the Millennium Dome would have taught them a lesson) and children are paid to go to school. Its pretty annoying that really the only nice underground stops are the ones that politicians have to use, fancy that. The mainland trains are just as bad though, they're always breaking down, running late, have stupid computer problems (I was on one the other month where the doors wouldn't open at the station so we couldn't get off! And another one had the wrong tape playing over the tanoy so I missed my stop (it was night)) Honestly, its such a tiny country but travelling around it takes forever and is stupidly expensive. Oh well, I'm sure its better than some other less developed countries! :D At least Of Montreal and other bands come here at all, I guess. And I do hate the Arctic Monkeys but thankfully they don't come down where I live either, just a load of cover bands and Chas 'n' Dave :P

The first place I worked in London Was in Sloane Square (I had to buy a new copy of "Viva Hate" to listen to Hairdresser on Fire 57,000 times), I was on a District line train, I think it was early 2004, and there was a citywide power outage, I was stuck underground with minimal lights for almost an hour. No matter what, even though everybody's cool and nobody's panicking and everybody laughs when I ask (although i really wanted to know) if anybody had a joint, after about half an hour you start to wonder if it's, well, i don't even want to say it. Best of luck for all you Londoners (it's all an atheist can offer), and for the rest of the country getting some substantial dates from Of Montreal.

London isn't too bad. I arrive there at paddington and you just hop right on the underground from there. I went to see B&S at Trafalgar Square, and that was really easy.
Never been on a london bus mind. The ride on the underground was kinda wierd tho, involving a robbery of some sort haha... Me and my friend stood by em. This asian woman went insane...

The SF shows (over a week ago) were great -- I went to the Bottom of the Hill and the first two GAMH shows. I didn't quite have the stamina to go to four shows in four nights (but I strongly considered it on the way home from my friends' superbowl party).
The Blow was an excellent opening band Friday night -- check them out on K Records. Recommended. Probably the best/most cohesive running monologue between songs I've ever seen. Khaela Maricich, the live human being part of the band, was (is?) in the Microphones. She was funny and open and brilliant, I thought. A great opener for of Montreal.
I wasn't that into Ariel Pink. It may have had something to do with the fact that all their energy was turned inwards toward themselves and not really toward the crowd.... but then again the crowd seemed lukewarm to them as well. So it was kinda mutual.
But of Montreal's shows were amazing -- and the costume and slideshow stuff was trippy and fun. Their setlist changed from night to night, which was really great. Can't wait till they come back!
(Does anyone have a list of the songs they played at any of the SF shows?)

But I work for Sons And Daughters, and we toured with Decemberists a wee while back so I think that made up for it. :D

Are the Europe dates that Pitchfork listed correct? If so, you are going to be in Berlin the day before I get there, which would result in me weeping until my eyes couldn't bear it anymore and left my sockets to pursue their dream of supermarket ownership. O it would be glorious if I could take in the excitement of an Of Montreal show before I wither away.... If you're somehow able to play a show in London between the 22-30th of May, I will... Well, I won't be able to do much of anything for you at all, but you'd save my eyes from certain bankruptcy (they haven't much business sense.)

Hey hey hello! I've heard rumours (from someone working at the festival) that they're going to play on sunday for the closing party. Which is cool but I'll have to ask for another day off.
And yeah, the Apples!!! :D
Come on mr. late B.P. Helium, why don't you come on friday or saturday? have you ever been to Barcelona? it's such a lovely city, you'll enjoy it.
And the festival is great, it's at some kind of seaside park, you'd play with the mediterranean sea as a background ;)
I must say that at the Primavera Sound Forums we're big fans of Of Montreal, we even have a Pro-Of Montreal Lobbying Group. It splitted some days ago into the Non-Nude Pro-Of Montreal Lobbying Group and the Pro-Nude etc. but we're still strong!

Awesome show last night at Cat's Cradle. I got lots of video, but the sound is really crappy, and I got my Hissing Fauna signed by David Barnes, B.P., Dottie, Matt and Kevin, but I couldn't find Jamey anywhere. I just have to say that Beeps, you are awesome in person and a total hottie.
I know this may sound sacriligeous, but I almost had the feeling that with a few exceptions, the band wasn't really feeling it last night. It was still a reaaaaaallly good show, but I think the one at Duke was a little better as far as crowd interaction and silly antics goes. I still danced my ass off :). Maybe I'll get some pictures and videos up soon.

and at emmabodafestivalen in sweden, either 26th or 27th july
maybe i should go to emmaboda instead of the norwegian festival their playing...where in sweden is emmaboda? what other acts are announced? isn't emmaboda an all-indie pop sort of festival?
boyindrag
03-15-2007, 05:07 AM
Emmaboda festival is an indie-pop sort of festival in småland in the south of sweden, you find it Here (http://www.hitta.se/SearchCombi.aspx?SearchType=4&UCSB%3aWflWhite=1a1b&UCSB%3aWflPink=4a&UCSB%3aTextBoxWho=&UCSB%3aTextBoxWhere=emmaboda).
The easiest way to get there from norway is taking the train from oslo to göteborg and from there to emmaboda, it takes arond 8,5 h and costs 615 SEK with the cheapest youth ticket. you can travel cheaper (300 - 500 SEK) if your'e willing to make som more train changes. or you could travel to göteborg and take festivalbussen from there, it will take you directly to the festival and back to gbg afterward for 462 SEK. www.festivalbussen.com
other acts right now is: Kristian Anttila, Help she can´t swim, Miss Li, Familjen, Look Look (dancing boys), rough Bunnies, Almedal, Sirka Ragnar, My darling you, 64 revolt, Wired for mono, You/me
they usualy book around 50 acts.
festival homepage (www.emmabodafestivalen)
i've been to emmaboda festival a few times and it's a nice festival, small, around 3000 persons, two stages. and it's just one area, no seperation between festival and camping.
I'm getting to old for festivals, sleeping in tent and drinking heavy four days straight, but if they anounce something really extraordinary (like 1998 when NMH, OTC and Music Tapes played there) i probably go again.

Boyindrag, how about Accelerator? They've usually got a pretty good line-up, right? I'm getting too old to drink 8 days straight at Roskilde, and Accelerator usually gets some of the best small and mid-sized bands that play Roskilde anyway... And Göteborg is just a three hour drive from Oslo. You've been there?
And by the way, if you go to Emmaboda, check out Sirka Ragnar. They're a really good Norwegian 'indietronica' band. Sort of like if Stephen Malkmus was the singer of Postal Service + a lot of horns.

Right now it looks like there won't be any Accelerator in Göteborg this year, only Stockholm has been confirmed. But they usually got a pretty good line-up, yes.
I've never been to Acelerator in Gbg only in Stockholm, it's a really nice "grownup" festival, no dirt and misery :)
This year Göteborg has this festival called Way Out West who has a collaboration with Öyafestivalen in Oslo and gets artist from there.

The Cambridge gig is run by Greenmind, and it's a bit of a one-off.
I haven't seen any official announcements by OM or Coda - it's not on their website(s) or OM's MySpace. My friend told me about the London gig, and I stumbled across the Cambridge one on a message board. Both are 18+ Visit ticketweb.co.uk for London, wegottickets.com for Cambridge.

So far I've got an 8 am start on the Monday, 5 changes later and I'm in Norwich. Then down to Cambridge for a day of nothingness unless I go home. If I do go home, it's a 6 hour coach journey to Cambridge, then 2 trains and £32 to Nottingham + hostel, £8 up to Manchester, stay with a friend then fly down to London for £40, then £30 early train home.
Potentially up to 12 trains, 1 flight, 2 buses and a coach, 5 shows, 3 B&Bs/hostels... best £350 I'll ever spend.

I must admit I was surprised too, was expecting them to be around the £15 mark, especially in London. When I logged on to buy a pair of London tickets and saw they were only £8.50 each (that's $16.70) I ended up buying four so I could treat some more friends. Or make some more friends. Either or.
