A friend just lent me an accordion and I've been having fun fooling around with it. But I don't really know how to play it, so I've got some questions:
- What's the proper way move the bellows? should i always go all the way open and then all the way closed, or are small motions better? or does it depend?
- also, the accordion is kind of old and some of the chord buttons seem to get stuck when i play them. is there any way to prevent this?
any tips at all muchly loved. thanks.

i think the movement of the bellows depends on the rhythm... kind of like strumming patterns. at least, that's how i see it. and play it. etc.

concerning bellows: NEVER open and close them without a key pressed or the release key pressed... it will blow the seals and such.
congratulations on your gain.

aww thanks justin!!
i have rahmshakle hymn DOWN!
and as far as the sticky keys, thats just what happens to accordions when they are old, the only way i know of to fix it is to have a proffesional look at it and fix it up, which isnt cheap.
i like the idea of an accordion orchestra!

these are two resources i used/ am using
if you really want to learn to play i would recomend a begginner book, im just starting to use one and am very happy
good luck
i watched an episode of "arthur" yesterday where mr. morris, the janitor, gave buster his old accordion before moving to new mexico to be with his daughter. he played "clementine" to arthur over a walkie-talkie who had just gotten over the fear that his dad would die on his catering jobs. it was the moment where everyone learned something.

"Oh... are you having cake?" ...best episode.
I've pined for an accordian for quite a while. About how much would one cost?

yeah... it's on the left, by the bass keys, near your thumb...
and arthur is great. I haven't seen it forever, but it's smart and funny and it is all in all quite enjoyable.

thekingisdead, if you know some good music shops that sell used instruments, keep looking around. i got mine (a pretty good full size one) for $200. if you don't know of any places to go, you could go on ebay, but obviously it's a lot better to play it before you buy it.
