Alright I love Gulag Orkestrar but i can't understand alot of what he's saying. Does anyone know of a place where i can find lyrics? I've tried searching google and stuff but nothing came up. Any help would be much apreciated.

i know what he he's saying. Go ahead. Ask me.
I think I read that he considers his lyrics to be secondary, anyways.

That's really not the point. I just want to know what the hell he's saying.
I don't think he knows what he's saying. The stuff I can make out I like though.
It's funny that the first place you'd think to make a thread about this is the NMH forum. Not in a bad way, it's just interesting.

It doesn't answer your question but it may explain why they're not on google.

No it doesn't. The lyrics aren't on the internet because they're from an obscure indie band, not because the author thinks they're "secondary."

I don't think Beirut is that obscure...
and if the music was as lyrically driven as NMH, the lyrics would probably be more readily available.

I completely disagree but I'm just going to drop it because this argument is going around in circles.
And you're quite welcome tomatoes

pgrube, you should relax and do as I do and make up your own words while singing along. Sadly, it is true that Zach does not put much emphasis on lyrics. At the concert they played in Greensboro he said "You guys can sing along, you don't need to know the lyrics - we don't." I think "Elephant Gun" or "Lon Gisland," their new EP has much more emphasis on lyrics. I think its coming out in January and rocks like balls. If you haven't heard it, youtube that shit up.

Yeah. I just feel rediculous wailing incoherantly. Oh well.

Some of the Beirut stuff you can connect with very well... I'm absolutely in love with Scenic World (especially the second one, Track #14), and some of it is very eastern-european sounding... which is also lovely.

so i was watching the movie borat... and some of the music was extremely familiar. you know why? ccccheckit:
this wonderful Yugoslavian brass band called Kocani Orkestar had a song in the movie, a song called siki siki baba... and the chorus of that song is the same melody as that of Beirut's first track "the gulag orkestar" (the first thing he 'chants', and reoccurring throughout)...... although the rest of the song doesn't match up.

Kocani Orkestar is badass. I love Balkan brass bands.
