Audacity. I have some version of Cubase too, but it's big and stupid and too complicated for me to use.

Audacity for now.

But it'll be Garage Band once I decide to purchase a Macbook.

SONAR. It's Cakewalk's version of ProTools, which sounds better to me anyways!

im using audacity,

quick question,
when i try and record multiple tracks in the same project
the speed at which it records and the speed at which it plays the first track are different
and it makes it so the tracks dont line up at all,
i can fix this by manually moving the tracks to fit together, but that takes along time,
does anyone know how i can fix this?

to record im recording into a mic conected to my 4 track which is then connected to my laptop from the 4 tracks headphone jack to my computers mic in jack. (i know this isnt the best setup)

is it my setup thats bad, my laptop or teh program?
if anyone can help me id be very appreciative

The solution is to modernize and throw away your 4 track.

Actually, I use my 4-track as a pre-amp/mixer for my computer's multitrack software... :/

the problem is your soundcard. I had the same problem. Go USB with like imic or something.

out of date cracked demos of Acid and Sound Forge that i d/l ages ago are still going strong. i also play around with Fruity Loops and Native Instruments FM7.

To record I have a Tascam US-122 USB Audio/Midi Interface which I got cheap on ebay. I used to use a mic plugged straight into the line-in.

i use garageband, with an m-audio usb interface. i'm going to get an m-audio icontrol mixer dealy soon.

i want to learn more about post-recording mastering though... is it wise to use a different program? i forget what i've read on the subject

uh, heh, garageband. but you can make the crappiest of programs work if you use your imagination. i have a USB mic that can sound pretty good (BLUE snowball)

some people have problems with it... i've found that it works well in garageband, if you plug it in AFTER you already opened the project. and i guess there are some patches/updates that fix some of the problems people had with them, but i haven't foudn them yet. it has it's limitations but it's definitely nice as a quick mic setup

i used sonor and got relatively good results, it has a decent mixing program too...www.myspace.com/disasteratsea, but i guess if you add a certain amount of reverb, you can make most stuff sound ok...
