I found it!

I found a vinyl copy of In The Aeroplane Over The Sea!

I'm extatic.

I'll upload a pic once I find a good one to show off it's on vinyl (afterall, the cover is 'simple').

So, anyone else have it on vinyl?

Cool find. I don't want to get flamed but what's the fascination with vinyl? We have a crapload of records and a decent player, and it's neat and all, but I don't get it. albums sound good on it, but i'd really attribute that to the outstanding speakers. I'll admit there is something romantic in the crackle of a long ignored record, but idk. Listening to an mp3 with good headphones in the dark will afford an amazing enviroment to listen for transparency and depth, What is the attraction to vinyl?

i was fine with cassettes, and liked them mainly because you can let them play and they turn off by themselves (i.e. going to sleep) but one cassette started to have a highpitched tone or buzz. but then it went away after letting it sit for about a week.

Basically that. For some reason Aeroplane looks amazing in 12x12 (I think? Inches). And I like old school.

Cassettes are underrated - try fitting a mix CD in your pocket.

Oh, and I will open it. But it will be the right time and the right place, hopefully with the right person. Though, Aeroplane is one of those great late night alone albums too.

The classic phrase I hear is that vinyl sounds "warm" and CD/digital sounds "sterile." I just bought a turntable a few weeks ago after not having had one for 20 years, and have started buying tons of vinyl, because I could hear the "better" sound the first day I started listening to it. I can't possibly explain the term "warm", but it's kind of a "know-it-when-you-hear-it" thing.

Not to mention, at least in my area you can pick up tons of good used vinyl from $2-5!

I like vinyl because of the size, especially when the artwork is fun like the SFA Songbook pop up vinyl, its just nice to own. And I love picture discs, they're very collectable. But I like CDs because they're hardy and cheap and small, and I can play them in the car and make compilations out of them easily, so I mainly buy CDs but if I like the artwork I buy the vinyl. Plus, if I think something might be worth something in the future I might buy it on vinyl (I'm a sucker though, because that just wont happen).

I have Aeroplane in vinyl, I bought it because I liked the cover art. I eventually (about 2 years later) had to get it on CD too because the vinyl was just too much of a bother to play.

I prefer vinyl because digital recordings lose the high and low end of a recording in order to ensure a clean sound while vinyl keeps those sounds intact. Plus, you can't walk around listening (ignoring) an album if you play it on vinyl. The lack of portability narrows the margins of possibly having a record become background music. It's still possible, but listening to vinyl is a bit more of an active experience.

For me, the appeal of listening to vinyl is that there is a physical listening process that occurs. I get to watch the needle read the gaps and I have to flip the album at the half way point. It is simply a personal (and kind of absurd) preference, but I don't like the inability to watch a hard drive spin and read music as it plays and stopping when it's done. I feel like the music is being performed off of the huge record, and I don't get the feeling from my computer.
