Hi, I'm Tricia Kenney, managing director of corporate communications for the advertising agency Kaplan-Thaler. Among our many clients is Outback Steakhouse, and we recently created a commercial that uses Of Montreal prominently. I would like to thank all of you for the unprecedented support that this particular campaign has experienced.
Of Montreal is constantly playing in the office CD player, and we decided that this would be the perfect way to both support a band that we at Kaplan-Thaler adore while also providing a quality product for our client. Thanks to you, our plan has succeeded beyond our most hopeful expectations, and public awareness of Outback has spread to places like YouTube and Pitchfork, highly trafficked media centers that we otherwise could only reach through banner ads (something we are largely skeptical of at Kaplan-Thaler).
Once again, thank you for supporting fellow Of Montreal fanatics, and we hope to see you all during their next tour!

my friends, we have just been hit with a vampire assault.
this leech is trying to make points by registering on the E6 board to maintain a healthy (or unhealthy") business alliance with the epicenter of their target market.
Just because the band is selling steaks, doesn't mean I will too, Miss Tricia Kenney Vampire.
go spam yourself, Leech!

Interesting post, Tricia. But you forgot to mention that the real winner here is your average steak-loving indie-music consumer, who might have otherwise opted for an inferior product.

I wonder if Sears posted something like this on the Stephen Malkmus board after they used his music to sell washing machines...

I really hope that one day these indie band people realize that it's really hard for me to feel socially relevant when they're selling their music to the highest bidder. I mean, exactly what am I supposed to do when these songs are out there where just anyone can hear them? How am I supposed to maintain my reputation as an 'obscure musical tastes' guy? What am I supposed to talk about with my cool, culture-savvy friends at the record store if the 'hip factor' is gone from the music?
These indie band people should really stop being so selfish and start thinking more about my needs.

start listening to music you don't even like that no one knows about, then shove it in everyone's less-indie face!

But then they'd know about it! Listen to obscure music that sounds absolutly awful but defend you listen to it for irony should anyone discover how awful they are, then brood silently and when asked about it, laugh knowingly!
And I don't know if tricia's post is legit but if it's actually from outback I think it's pretty cool they actually came on E6 and talked about it.
