Yeah, its originally a Phil Spector song.

You know, from that time long ago when he was writing music. In the pre-woman-killing days. It all seems so long ago.

the Phil Spector song (actually written by Barry Mann and Larry Kolber, but Spector produced the Paris Sisters version which popularized the song in 1961)

I remember on one of the bootlegs (maybe jittery joes) someone in the audience says something I can't hear, and jeff goes "Phil Spector? ...." and I always used to think it was "The Spector", like the name of some old song!

yeah, it goes like:

guy in crowd: "The Spector (song)!"
Jeff: "The Spector? That's a Royal Trux song, I can't play that!"
guy in crowd: "No, the PHIL Spector song!"
Jeff: "OHH! ok, I can play that one."

..something like that.
