I think a fanfare project that focuses on our own original songs would still be a tribute, in spirit, to NMH and and the other bands that have inspired us to love music. We should do that!

I have no video-producing experience whatsoever, but it'd be cool to work with somebody who does.
Anybody like to make movies? I'd definitely be down with writing a song for this project if somebody wanted to contribute some of their movie-making skills.
If anybody wants to put some video to music, count me in!

I'm against it. 4 fanfares is enought for now. Everyone make your own music or make a tribute to another band, really.

Devo tribute, then?

we should do an e6townhall tribute to the beach boys or the beatles or something.

Or Devo.
I'd say Tiny Tim, but he only wrote a few songs that actually made it to the studio.

Alright. Fair enough. It was just an idea.

I dunno, maybe a new fanfare should be held off for a while. I mean, there's been like 4 in a year.

True. Like I said, it was an idea that i wanted to post before I forgot it.

i don't know how many of you were around back then, but in 1999 or so there was a thriving e6 mailing list, and its members produced a pretty stunning pop album called without the use of gravity. i still have it, and many of the songs on it still ring in my head unbidden, some seven years later. i think a fanfare project that focuses on our own original songs would still be a tribute, in spirit, to NMH and and the other bands that have inspired us to love music.

I agree, original music is the way to go! My neighbor and I are planning a large piece band with the best musicians we know, and this would be a great incentive to get going :]

Well I only started visiting this forum a few months ago, therefore I have never had the pleasure to participate in a fanefare album. It also seems that tomatosandradiowires has something new and interesting. So there's 2 people with interest.
I think that the fanfare albums give people a venue where their music will be appreciated and so long as there's an audience for the fanfare albums, I say keep 'um comming.

As far as appreciating people's music goes, i've seen countless people go out on a limb and simply link to the music they're making. Not only have I never seen any of them recieve harsh rejection, but alot of people make the effort to give their stuff a listen and provide feedback. If someone doesn't like it, they just say it's not their bag and provide some critiscism, and if anyone likes it, they're all too happy to say so. I think that that's what's pretty cool about this forum, other than petty surface conflicts and minor annoyances, the e6 community is a pretty supportive and groovy place.

Whatever, it just seems like overkill already. Three albums of NMH covers is boring enough, let alone four or five. If that's what you want to do, then I'm against it.
That said, I certainly like the idea of an original songs album, just not under the Fanfare name, because it would no longer have anything to do with NMH.

First of all when I became a member the fanfare album was in it's execution stage. People were already working on their stuff and it would have been too late for me to add anything. Plus it took me a little bit to figure out exactly what the fanfare was.
Second, I completely agree with you that a fourth album of covers would be overkill. I loved the format of the last fanfare album and would like to see that again.
Third, if the term 'fanfare' is whats bothering you why not just call it a "NHM-inspired collaboration" or something of the sort. Quite frankly I could care less if you called it a 'Fanfare' album or not.

Haha. Well I would love organize it but alas, my 56k with dial up connection would probably complicate the transfering of files. Plus I have alot of college aplication shit that I have to deal with. But if there's interest I would be glad to do what I can to help.

I'd possibly consider submitting, if only because my last was recorded on a faulty/laggy soundcard. But no, I don't really want to. But I'm all for the idea of a comp of original music. Just a comp, not a tribute, not NMH related in anyway. We really should do this.

a record of all originals would be stellar. there are so many people on here who are awesome musicians and i think a tribute to the e6 ethic, a bunch of friends creating music and appreciating the music created by others, would be better than another cd of covers.

I'd say we're more like digital aquantences.

aquantences, indeed. A fine misspelling.

An all-original compilation would be fun. Moreso than a new fanfare, at least. As has been said, there's a bunch of great musicians here, and it could be cool to put together a comp. full of original stuff.

Let's do it, then.
heck, i'll organize it.
I'll start a topic in the main e6 forum.

I would really like to get some fellow semi-talented friends together and perform a rag-tag doo-doo take of the 1st Imaginary Symphony for Nomad at a local pub or something.
