What is the instrument at the end of oh, comely? You-know, not the accompining trumpet, but the thing that does that plays the same thing, just fluttery.
My guess is Zanzithophone or ?saxaphone?

I think Jeff Mangum makes that noise with his tongue.

Well, when they play the same note et the end, they don't quite match. Either its not a trumpet or whoever's playing it is playing it oddly. It could always be another brass instrument, they had quite an arsenal, but I don't think any other brass instrument they had goes higher than a trumpet.

As far as i can tell there are three brass instumets playing at the end of oh comely. There is a trombone (posibly a bass trobone) playing a lower riff, a clean trumpet playing the melody, and a muted trumpet playing the top "fluttery stuff". That's what I think but I'd like to heard an oppinion from on of the numerous music majors that frequent the site.

It sounds sorta like a thurman to me but i don't think that nmh uses a thurman so i'd say that it's just a computerized effect.

When I first heard the song, I thought it was sound effects of seals. and then i watched the New Years 40 Watt Show, and figured it out. But then after reading all about Jeff's field recording adventures, it'd sorta make sense to be seals after all.
