I'm gutted they're not coming to Northern Ireland on their tour. Pere Ubu aren't either ffs.

Long Live A Hawk and a Hacksaw, may they never have a guitarist nor a bass guitarist, nor some guy with a double guitar.

And here I am.
I'm hoping to see them do a show in November here in London. In fact, I should get round to getting those tickets today.

Anybody have any info on an American LP version of this record? I'm kind of poor, but I might have to just suck it up and throw down on the UK LP.

Thank you, Gokk. It is really good, but I don't think it beats "Darkness at Noon." Not that it would be easy to do. "In the River" is amazing, and there's some song that sounds like it's straight out of "Curb Your Enthusiasm;" which I mean in the best possible way.

I've listened to it a few times now, and it's really grew on me. It didn't have the immeadiate impact Darkness at Noon, but the instrumentation and arrangements are really cool. Beirut is coming to Canada in the first week of October and no opener has been announced... here's hoping its Jeremy and Heather.

This is really good. I don't see how he could make a bad record though.

I don't know, my first few listens to their first album were not pleasant, with the exception of the last part of "Romanesca." Now I think it's alright.
Does anyone else think guitars have been a bit overused in the past fifty or so years?

Definitely. Or at least used in boring ways 80% of the time. I just got into an argument with my girlfriend about this last week.

Pretty much that guitars haven't been overused in popular music for the last little bit of time. We were at a Rogue Wave concert and the opening band was kind of trying to sound like the Strokes or something and it was just kind of "why would anybody in a band want to sound like this" kind of moment for me. Bands need something to set them apart and the two guitar, bass, drum attack isn't exactly it unless the vocals aren't mumbled Julian Casablancas style.
