You went to the Athens PopFest, now what?

Well, you email me (opticaljeff76@yahoo.com) your memories of PopFest so I can assemble a scrapbook of the event for Optical Atlas.

Minimum: A sentence or two describing a notable moment from PopFest that you'd like to have entered into the scrapbook. Did Robert Schneider say something particularly witty between songs? Did Circulatory System launch into a Syd Barrett cover? Did M Coast spontaneously combust at the end of their set? (Seriously, I don't know, I wasn't there.) Knowing that others will be contributing, if you could just preserve one small moment from the Fest, what would it be?

Greater Effort: OK, so you have ten small moments to mention, not just one? That's okay too. You have pictures, video, MP3? That's wonderful. Depending on the contributions received, this may be a multimedia scrapbook.

So basically, if you went to PopFest, send me something. It doesn't have to be longer than a sentence; on the other hand, it can be whatever you want it to be. The key is that I receive enough contributions to put something special together.

Important: if you're going to be sending me something, but it's going to take you a while to put it together, please contact me anyway so I know it's coming. I'd hate to put the scrapbook out prematurely, if something great's coming down the pipeline.

I hope you all had fun.

Since no one else has said it yet I guess I'll spill the beans.
Saturday was Hilarie's last show with the Apples in Stereo.

I'll post about other stuff later. Suffice to say, Athens Pop Fest (APF) was too much fun.

Paulpaul, do you mean what's the deadline? Because I'm not going to set one until I get enough material that it seems like it's taking shape. So far, so good, and thanks to those who've contributed (including the 8-track Gorilla).

Don't worry about sending too much either, I can edit!

The 2006 Athens PopFest Scrapbook is finally up.

Yes, I cribbed a lot of your photos (if you linked in this thread, you're up for grabs, as far as I'm concerned). But I did give everyone full credit, with links back to their galleries.

Thanks so much to everyone who contributed!

Yeah, Elephant 6 is blessed with great fansites.

Aqualad
09-18-2006, 09:38 PM
i wouldn't call it a fansite... that's a little offensive for something like this.

liberateanimals4
09-18-2006, 09:39 PM
I guess you're right... I was struggling to find the right words. Maybe informational music website? I dunno. It's certainly a fansite, but that is a derogatory-sounding word.

Maybe we can try to reclaim it for good!

David_R._Gross
09-18-2006, 10:15 PM
Jeff uses the word Fanzine (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&rls=DGUS,DGUS:2006-12,DGUS:en&defl=en&q=define:FANZINE&sa=X&oi=glossary_definition&ct=title), so............opticalatlas.com is an "online fanzine". That sounds sophisticated and cultured, I think.

el topo
09-19-2006, 08:21 AM
Thanks for the nice words. I'm definitely a fansite/fanzine/whatever. The subtitle of the site is "A Home for Friends of the Elephant 6 Recording Company," so my theory has always been that it's just a place for "friends of E6," which we all are...

Paul, I deliberately did a minimum of editing in the scrapbook comments because I wanted it to have a hastily-scribbled-in-a-yearbook feel...I hope you don't feel bad, I liked your comments and put your run-on paragraph on the last page because it seemed to sum everything up, and was funny (in a good way)!
