Hi folks,
I love Of Montreal and have The Gay Parade and Coquelicot, but want more! What's the best next buy?

Ooh! That's three! I'm not sure I can afford all that . . . but anyway, thanks for the tips. Was listening to Gay Parade the other day and became absolutely dumbstruck by how lovely it is. Hence the post.

I second the motion that you should get "singles and songles"
I also suggest "the bird who continued to eat the rabbit's flower"

I only have the Early Four-Track Recordings which I like...I think I'll buy the Cherry Peel next for total chronological consumption.

Cherry Peel definetly.. Aldhils Aboretum is also the beans.. Hell, buy them all.. They are all excellent albums.. If you love those two, you will love them all.. Dearly.. And you'll be crazy in love with this band with the rest of us psycho OM fans!
OM's #1 psycho fan,

Now that's an endorsement! I think the only thing that has put me off Of Montreal thus far is the bloody 'Cause of Gauze' poem in Coquelicot . . .

Well, personally I prefer Aeroplane to any single Of Montreal album I've heard, but that's just personal preference. By no means is your claim blasphemous to me! Actually, now we're on the subject, I think I prefer Black Foliage to Aeroplane . . .
The lasting appeal of Aeroplane, for me, comes from it being a really great album to listen to loud and sing along at the top of your lungs. It gallops along at a cracking pace, and has this addictive momentum. Although there's plenty of detail and humour on Of Montreal releases, they can sound a little . . . fussy?!
Derek Almstead basslines get my roaring seal of approval any day of the week though, especially on Coquelicot and the Summer Hymns albums he plays on.

Just the response I needed - thanks Nath.
By the way, you've no doubt been asked this before, but why 'Half-Handed'?

I listened to some Half-Handed Cloud samples on Amazon.com....It does kind of sound like Of Montreal. I can't stand seriously Christian music though (I don't know if this is or not), even if I was Christian I don't think I could.
Amazon.com user review quotes: "Ringhofer seems to be living in a happy-Jesus world where no one ever doubts and God is always looking down with love."
"They tend to sound like something John Lennon might've written when he was two."
