It seems Pitchfork always needs to throw in some reference to a band they consider hip; this time it was Ladybug Transistor. It's so much cooler to like LT over Essex Green. Not that it matters, but Sasha and Jeff wrote most of the ladybug songs. It doesn't make sense to compare the songwriting talents of the two bands (and it certainly isn't fair to the songwriting talents of Chris Ziter). It was just a parting comment (a little wink) for all the cool hipsters.

I'm just glad that they had a positive review, and that Pitchfork was smart enough not to try to box the band into their preconceived ideas of cool indie rock (wolf parade or clap your hands). I like both of those bands, but Essex Green should be judged on the merits of their own style and talent.

Um, perhaps because they were reviewed by 2 different people?

But the Pitchfork critic should have taken the time to read The Ladybug Transistor review before he made such a comment. He represents Pitchfork, so his comment should have been consistent with previous reviews.

Oh well, I'm still deciding whether his overall comments were snarky and sarcastic. They certainly seemed well intentioned to me, but it's been pointed out that one can interpret it both ways.
