Well, obviously everyone's top ten is bound to include several E6 bands, so I figured I'd switch it up. Here's mine:

The Beach Boys/Pet Sounds
The Beatles/Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band
Smashing Pumpkins/Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness
Jimi Hendrix/Electric Ladyland
The Clash/London Calling
Meat Puppets/Meat Puppets II
My Bloody Valentine/Loveless
The Rolling Stones/Exile On Main Street
Led Zeppelin/Houses of the Holy
Sonic Youth/Daydream Nation

This changes quite often, although Pet Sounds is consistently the top one. And yes, My top two are very cliche, but they are honest to God my favorite non E6 albums.

Tom Waits - Bone Machine
Captain Beefheart - Lick My Decals Off, Baby
Naked City - Black Box
Nick Cave - Let Love In
Reverend Glasseye - Black River Falls

That's my top five, anyway--I had trouble deciding on the rest. If this wasn't non-E6, In An Aeroplane Over the Sea would be there somewhere... probably #3 or so.

You sir, are awesome.

Off the top of my head, and in no particular order:

Bob Dylan - Bringing It All Back Home
Miles Davis - In A Silent Way
The Beatles - The Beatles (White Album)
Neil Young - After The Gold Rush
The Microphones - The Glow, Part II
The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds
Belle and Sebastian - If You're Feeling Sinister
Bob Dylan - Blonde on Blonde
Yo La Tengo - I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One
Nick Drake - Bryter Layter

I'm listening to Akron/Family's self-titled right now, and I can tell that it's totally going to be on this list someday. If you like the Microphones or anything from the new freak folk wave, you'll dig this -- given that you're reading this on an e6 board, you'll probably enjoy it regardless. Anyway, it's highly recommended.

have you seen FLCL? the best (and possibly only good) anime series ever, featuring an all-pillows soundtrack.

yeah, that's what got me into them, but i found their older stuff (please mr. lostman and earlier) to be their best. THey experimented a lot with jazz and created some real masterpieces. They've sadly degenerated into a crappy pop rock band now that they have some fame.

i'd say this is a current top 10, as it's always changing, knamean? (in no order)

pavement -- slanted & enchanted
madvillain -- madvillainy
the beatles -- white album
quasimoto -- the unseen
stevie wonder -- innervisions
deerhoof -- reveille
gil scott-heron & brian jackson -- winter in america
bob dylan -- blood on the tracks (side 1 might be the best 5 song combination ever)
GZA -- Liquid Swords
Ghostface -- The Pretty Toney Album

I think I put those last two because I saw Wu-Tang Clan last monday, and it was easily the best show I've ever been to.

and honestly, the olivia tremor control albums would be the only e6 albums to go on there...

i think In The Aeroplane Over The Sea is somewhat overrated. sorry

these aren't in any order, because i have the hardest time with ordering lists.

belle and sebastian- if you're feeling sinister
the beatles- white album (i could probably put almost every beatles album on here)
the decemberists- her majesty
polaris- music from the adventures of pete and pete (honestly, it is a pretty awesome album. very nostalgic.)
rilo kiley- more adventurous
cat stevens- tea for the tillerman

yep.
