i'm looking to get a good souncard for my laptop for recording. wondering if anyone has any recomendations. i'm trying to stay around or below the $500 range. thanks!

mac or pc? processor speed? firewire or usb? usb 2.0? how many ins and outs do you need? what platform/program do you use? there are so many options for so many scenarios these days. for mac it seems to me that in your price range your best with an m-box. however, i only suggest that because they're easy and come bundled with pro tools. if you need more ins and outs look at motu firewire stuff, m audio firewire stuff, shit everybody makes these now...you should probably make a list of necessary features, find the boxes that fulfill that list, repost that list, and then we can really talk about it!

im not as smart as derek about this sort of thing, but I can tell you that i am pretty happy with sound blaster. i actually hooked up my stereo to my computer and that is what i use to play music when i go to sleep every night.
