TV on the Radio and the Soft Machine are probably my favorite music to study to. Spacemen 3 are also really good, though they tend to make me feel really...spacey.

Honestly, to me jazz is the most distracting to listen to. Listening to jazz is something that should be an activity in itself.

i found, in writing papers, godspeed you black emperor is excellent. All are quite good, my favourite though is yanqui u.x.o.

There is not a better band in the world to do music to than godspeed...

Once you try it, you will never go back.

I usually go with something I know every lyric and line to, something in a different language, or something without words completly. There is a word for that, I know, but I'm way to tired to summon it. I'm easily distracted, which is why I have to be listening to something that the lyrics of won't distract me.

Same- if I know all the words, they just sort of get processed unconsciously. If it's something new, 1) I want to be able to absorb it and 2) I end up listening to the words.

I probably would not have survived finals without Do Make Say Think.

Studying?!? In the days I used to study Pablo Honey used to work for me, in fact I only ever listened to it when I studied.

the one am radio
the album leaf
four tet
boards of canada
sigur ros
emilliana torrini
antony and the johnsons

then if it's going to be grungier/heavier/noisier

xiu xiu
forget cassettes
heavens to betsy
huggy bear
sonic youth

but really I'll put anything on if it gets me in a good mood. I think the general rule I follw is nothing brand new first or second listen, and nothing that directly relates to my emotional state of mind etc. I think that last part should make sense, hopefully.

I was listening to No-Neck Blues Band while studying earlier.

Not only is Qvaris a fucking great album, but it was great to study to, as well.

hmm. if i'm actually studying, something mellow is usually preferable. as for paper-writing, i've found that amos house collection, volume 2 not only speeds the process up, but also allows me to concentrate more than anything else, which could be due to the fact that i'm actually not that fond of any of the songs. anyhow, it does the trick.
