I was thinking, since "engine" was played alot live around the Aeroplane era, as was other outtakes like "Oh Sister", does a studio version for "sister" or "She did alot of acid" exist? It would seem logical since Engine has one, so mabey it just hasn't been released.

Anyone have access to session sheets?

There were a few songs recorded during the Aeroplane sessions that were never finished. "Ferris Wheel On Fire" has been confirmed as one, I'm not sure about the others. "Oh Sister" would be a logical guess for another, since it is a companion song to "Oh Comely."

What about the version of "Engine" on the (IIRC) oh, merge! CD? Was that also a live version?

it's a different version on Hype City Soundtrack, and that certainly doesn't sound live.

The B-side of Holland doesn't sound live-it has the singing saw and horns and ambulance sound effects. The only thing that sounds "live" is the clapping at the end, but I'm pretty sure thats just someone in the studio being goofy, much like the "holy shit!" at the end of "Oh Comely"

And that is friggin' great that "Ferris Wheel" does, as that's my favorite NMH song. I heard orange twin is rereleasing On Avery Island with bonus tracks, so mabey when the get around to re-releasing Aeroplane we can finally hear some of these versions.

How 'bout "The Wind and the Worms"?

Defgav's site says the Holland version of Engine was recorded in the London Underground.
:/
Does anybody have an mp3 of it, or better yet, the actual single?

is it the version with the ambulance at the end?

Yeah, it's from Piccadilly Circus. It's "live" but I'm pretty sure the performance was entirely for the purpose of recording the song.

"Worms in the Wind" was still an unfinished fragment during the post-Aeroplane tour, so I doubt there exists a studio version from that time.

I always thought it was just a really short song...

Yeah, the single version is definitely live. Though I forgot about the Hype City version (go figure), and that's definitely studio (though it's really lo-fi).

yeah, I found it puzzling you didn't mention it (considering your name) but there is no evidence of audience at all. So I'd be 90% certain it's studio recorded. but scratchy lo-fi recording is what NMH did so, you can't be expecting crystal clear recording.

My two cents is that it was most likely just a live performance of the song and recorded in one take. Fits the definition of "live" and explains the lack of crowd noise.

I heard somewhere that the bonus tracks are just the Everything Is EP, but I can't remember where I heard this.

I think that the British version came with the "Everything Is" songs on it, but I'm not sure about this rerelease...

Lusitania

yeah, this one's from Orange Twin, it should be different - especially since they sell 'Everything Is' separately anyway.

In the inital news about the re-release it said there was bonus LIVE tracks. Don't go staining your pants for any studio stuff yet.

I'm hoping for a complete crystal clear, unsurfaced live show. That way if thats all there is I'm not dissappointed, and if its more than that I have a great excuse to paint my trousers white.

like they released Live at Jittery Joes as an album, not just a circulating bootleg? oh, and I don't mean like the quality of Jittery Joes, because there's other better quality sets floating around.

Yeah, thats exactly what my guess will be. Hopefully it'll have some dope new tunes we haven't heard before as well.

Trust me, on the London Underground, nobody applauds. Though curiously, the photograph of the single being recorded shows them above the Underground. Or rather, the Overground.

Why no clapping? Is it that everyone there is too COOL to enjoy music?

If so, sounds like Ottawa. We don't just do the standing still, we added an extra step...the cross your arms!

Here at Bard College, where hipsters were invented, we stand in the cold outside the venue, facing away from it, arms folded, freezing our asses off, wearing sunglasses in the dark, smoking cigarettes.

...which is why i don't like to go to shows here, though if i really love the band, i'll go and yodel along with them and whatnot.

Uggh, down with hipsters! John wants to dance but is self concious enough already without all the guys in slanty hair and vintage old man jackets staring down at him.
