I'm so pumped... twenty four minutes and I get to hear the new Lips. If it's as good as the newest B&S, I'll be damned happy and it'll be setting a precedent for 2006- the year fucking awesome bands put out fucking awesome albums.

I love it. For me, it's the best album from Flips Mark II,

Precedent set.
Once again, the Lips kick my ass with a great new sound. Free Radicals is nicely Prince-esque.

Awesome album.
2006 is going to kick 2005's ass.

It's decent. I thought "Free Radicals" was really annoying.
But "Pompeii..." is fucking incredible.

handful of good songs on there, but overall it's probably my least favorite of their albums. maybe it'll grow on me though. "free radicals" and "haven't got a clue" are duking it out for Worst Flaming Lips Song Ever.

free radicals is sick
dunno, i can't get into it... embarrassing lyrics and just sounds kind of half-baked and unfocused without being very much fun. it's like a "midnite vultures" b-side or something.

i had to skip halfway through the first track and now the second on is 10 x's worse. this is awful? does it get better? you know i didn't like yoshimi, but at least i could tollerate it. i hope this flops so i don't have to hear it again:mad:

you guys are crazy, i think it is really good. the yeahyeahyeah song is so gross live.
they have a huge video display and it is just of all these mouths eating various things and letting teh various things drop out of their mouths. pretty disturbing, but really funny.

if crazy is not liking a terrible album than so be it. i'd rather be crazy than have a headache.
"she don't use jelly" was fun nonsense. these lyrics are simply BAD. "you're turning into a poor man's donald trump"?? "every time you state your case/the more i want to punch your face"?!?!

speaking ofthings related to the flaming lips....is anyone going to the show in sf?.....and more importantly might anyone have an extra that they would graciously sell to me at a reasonable price instead of selling it on the open market and making an obcene amount of money but contributing to the degenericy that is ticket scalping

i really am not getting into it at all
pretty disappointed
i think its so bad that i thought it
was a fakeout album to fool downloaders
patman?
02-19-2006, 09:16 PM
Yeah, it's not very good at all. "Free Radicals" is still terrible.
There are a couple great songs, a couple bad songs, and the rest are decent to mediocre.
If it really was a fakeout album to fool downloaders, I'd laugh. Really hard. Except "Pompeii" better still be on the album.

I take back my comments. It's not that good. I love the first 2 tracks though. There's a whole lot of midtempo sludgein there

i like the cover art a lot. i can't wait to hear this whole album as i've only heard "you've got to hold on." uninspired title, but interesting song.
for better or worse, "you've got to hold on" isn't actually on the album. it's going to be a b-side to "the WAND."

First two tracks are the best, but I didn't find the mid-tempo stuff to be sludge, I just have to be in the mood for it.

im in agreeance that the first two tracks are the best, but the rest are not sludge.i especially like the last 4 songs. i wonder who "haven't got a clue" is about. i like to pretend it is beck.

^ Do they have some sort of beef with Beck? I have a pretty good KCRW session of them playing together.
I read an article on (sigh) MTV.com where Coyne says he was sort of railing against the superficiality of mainstream pop music with lyrics about surviiving and strength sung by 20 year olds who didn't write them and written by writers who don't care. I'd say that, if it's about anyone, that's who.

"Wayne Coyne gives a detailed description of the thought process behind the new album."

" The song is about a type of person that everybody knows and endures (we won't mention names). They blame everyone but themselves for all of their problems which they seem to have in endless supply. If they suffer, you suffer more... You know what I'm talking about." -wayne
totally about beck

I thought Beck was forty-eight.
you mean beck didn't find all the answers through scientology?

i think they could be referencing pretty much any twentysomething (perhaps blonde haired female?) singers in the mainstream today. britney spears pointed blame at everyone but herself when she put her dumbass offspring on her lap. way to take responsibility, you dirty slag!! bjork would never do that. although, the press, when they've nailed her on things, doesn't effect her because she's not reliant on media attention.... just the quality of her music. and, that's what i'm about. kevin barnes could punch a priest, a nun, and some orphan and i would still listen to his music and purchase his cds. i'd hope he'd apologize, though, especially to the orphan. (maybe throw in some gruel, for extra measure)
