1.areoplane - the pinnacle of elephant 6 in my opinion, the emotional depth of this one just hasn't been touched since...
2.dusk at cubist castle- ...though this one has it beat on sheer musical creativity and sonic adventure....STILL the funnest e6 record to listen to on headphones for me!
3.black foliage- a much cleaner recording than the analog patchwork of dusk(which i still prefer). the songs are fantastic, my favorite bill doss songs are pretty much all on this one.
4.circulatory system- although i think some of will hart's best songs yet have been on this album. a work of singular beauty. a true song cycle in every since of the term. took my breath away at several points on the first spin with the aforementioned headphones.
5.1st imaginary symphony - still an album after all these years that gives me goosebumps.i absolutely adore the production.i mean an edison wax cylinder recorder? that's ingenius. this album inspires me to record more than anything else in the collective.
6.on avery island- the next 3 in the list, starting with this masterpiece, are high water marks in the art of fuzz.
7.fun trick noisemaker- my favorite apples record, mainly because of the lo fi fuzzed out feel of most of the record, oh and the songs are pure pop gold!
8.are you sleepy?- this first gerbils album is probably the most lofi "official" release from the collective, i think crayon box is one of the finest indie rock songs of the 90's.up there with any other anthem of the era by pavement, gbv, or built to spill, etc...
9.hawk and a hacksaw- while darkness at noon was a fine album, this one just blew my mind, i mean i knew the guy was a dynamic drummer (just listen to any live nmh show from the era) but i was not prepared for the wealth of styles and influences that he seamlessly melded into this project.
great guest vocals by old you know who.
and finally...
10. thimble circus- lullabye for worriers- a lot of even the diehard e6er's out there find this curious little album hard to latch onto....and i can see why, jill carnes childlike voice sounds like something straight out of a david lynch film and her songs, created on toy instruments, ukulele, and bango are filled with archaic charm. if one looks closely they can see this project has more to do with the original elephant 6 ideals than any beulah record ever did!
runners up : major organ and the adding machine- a total party record...a wild good time.
coquelicot as in the poppies- my favorite of montreal record...i love the bursting at the seams energy of it. like the whole thing could just fly of the rails at any given moment.
and
orange twin field recordings vol1- not technically created by a collective member, but this recording and mixing of traditional bulgarain folk music by jeff mangum sends me to another world...more so than any rock based "pyschedelic" music ever has.
it's snowing in my neck of the woods today and nobody wants to buy music when there's snow to play in....so i'm bored at work (obviously).

Well, maybe he went too far with the whole Sun thing, ala Polyphonic Spree. I like it, it's just a bit samey.
