nmh played in a brooklyn subway station last night

they were playing engine when i heard them; jeff with a guitar, julian with a saw, jeremy with a drum, and scott with a trumpet. i was with a friend and we were the only ones there to hear it, and i cried.

then i asked jeff how he was doing and he gave me a tape and then i woke up.

after all of a sudden deciding to off handedly play a show in New Zealand, it wouldn't surprise me if this actually happened.

well it has been over 5 years since his last NMH performance. He probably ran into chris knox in new zealand and figured i might as well play a gig. It was probably a good way to sum up the nmh days.

actually I would call that impulsive.

I would also consider randomly playing a subway impulsive

it would also suit considering Mangum really didn't like what was happening with NMH, not necessarily the total wave of popularity, but he has hinted to the fact, and friends of his have also said things on the same wavelength.

all considered, I think the idea of a random show where he might only be appealing to 10 of 500 people would be an attractive idea to Jeff.
