does anybody get into ariel pink here? i've never heard any songs before and don't know anything about them or him but saw a used copy laying around and i've been wanting to here something new. mostly the reason i was posting this is because i saw that tiny mix tapes article about how he's using local bands to back him up on each of his tour stops and was wondering if anyone was going to attempt that. that's pretty gimmicky and could turn into a disaster but it might be fun if you get into his stuff and have a decent band.

a bunch of my friends really like him, but i could not get into it at all. what i heard was way to lo-fi, the sound quality was complete shit and it didnt sound like he could sing very well.
he reminds me of gary numan in that he cannot sing but sings like he can sing really well. maybe that is what people like about him. maybe i just heard something bad from him, who knows. anyone else know?

ariel pink is the shiznitch. musical genius of the 21st century if you ask me. he takes all the best parts of music from the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, and 00's and mashes it up through his warped view of music. yes he is lo-fi, but it reminds me of listening to one of Zappa's first couple of albums. plus all of the drums are really his mouth. in short, if you don't like ariel pink, you are ignorant and will burn with all of the unbaptized babies. thank god that the animal collective gave ariel the exposure that he so so so deserves. Worn Copy is his best with The Doldrums and House Arrest tieing for second.

I saw Ariel Pink open for Animal Collective last year and was quite surprised ... drum machine and synth and noises... I give them a 6

I thought his music was pretty weak, aside from "Jules lost his jewels", which was merely okay.
But then again I'm listening to Camper Van Beethoven right now.

i personally love the guy.. if you like him, then check out r. stevie moore....ariel's main influence. this guy was doing that iconoclast homemade pop way back in the late 60's. all you ariel pink fans will be amazed at just how much stuff he coped from moore. but regardless, they are both superb.

I like The Doldrums way more than I like Worn Copy.
But yeah, he's pretty good. He's quite an enjoyable listen.
