Hey I'm from Miami, FL and I just joined this place like 3 or 4 months ago but have never posted anything. Well I was wondering where everyone is from because I've never met anyone that likes nmh here so i'd like to know where everyone's been hiding.

yeah, it's funny how NMH gets mad dap in the press and online.. yet in real life it usually feels like you're the only person who likes them.
i'm from San Diego. Anybody else? I've been considering bringing my guitar down to an open mic night one of these days and doing (butchering) a bunch of NMH covers. And it'd be nice if there were a couple people there who would appreciate the songs.
Or hey, if anybody around SD wants to start a band.. that'd be fun.
So please let me know if either of those sounds appealing to you.

im a canadian kid, from calgary alberta. if it werent for the hideous architecture, and complete lack of anything musical, i would really love it here. there are a lot of interesting things going on, i think this city may be growing on me. i know for sure that i couldnt live anywhere without mountains now.
chattanooga has got to be the greatest name/word/anything ever.

Stroud, England. Lovely place.
I did some NMH covers at a music festival last weekend, and they all went down really well: 'King of Carrot Flowers Pt 1', 'In The Aeroplane Over The Sea' and 'Engine'. Also did 'Joy' by Circulatory System.

I am from Russia originaly and moved to the US when I was pretty young (8). I'm Curently living in the Chicago, IL area. I go to school in Champaign IL (taking an break from that) so Im back in Chicago for now.
I know of a few people in Champaign that love NMH but not too many from around here.
p.s. Im not really that much of a newbie here, but I haven't posted for so long that I forgot my login/password so I had to re-register:mad:

what are you talking about? Everytime I look at band tour schedules there are so many london dates.

You think that's bad. Hardly any of the "Big" bands even come anywhere here in North Dakota. I've never been to a live show in my life. (Well, the local bands, but other than that, nothing.) It's sad.
I take that back, some good bands have come around here. Phil Elvrum played a show in Moorhead, MN which is right by Fargo (I couldn't go because it was a bar and I am a minor.) And Modest Mouse is going to Regina, Saskatchewan (again, can't go. Two days before my 18th birthday.) *sigh*

I'm actually from a small small town in Northern England just a few miles south of the Scottish border. But I now live in Philadelphia, PA and am in the process of becoming an American citizen.
I doubt I would have got to see any of my fave Elephant 6 bands had I stayed where I was living. There was however, a wonderful record store in Carlisle, 20 miles form my hometown, that I frequented as a naive 17 year old that opened up my brain to all things elephant 6. The owner, after my second or third visit, knew my musical taste and would play me a selection of new stuff everytime I visited. Unfortunately, a few years later, a Virgin Megastore opened in the town and somebody told the police that my fave store was selling bootlegged live CD's. Now, I'm not insinuating that it was anyone from Virgin, but the next time I visited the store it was closed and the police had confiscated everything.
Very sad.
I just signed up for this board again after being on the old one and then deciding to take a break from anything internet based for my own sanity. It can be all consuming some times. But now I feel as though I can let it back into my life.

I think there are more NMH fans around then everybody gives them credit for. When I went to college in rural Ohio I was surrounded by NMH fans. I have converted most of my friends into NMH fans. ITAOTS is still selling lots of copies. I don't think we need to buy an island (though that would certainly be nice. 'Would you like another coconut? I think there's one defrosting in the hut'), but make our friends fans and keep our eyes out for shy fans everywhere. Love from the City of Lakes!

No, it's true. This school is hilarious. I don't live in the East Village- they stuck me in a dorm way down in Chinatown, which is actually one of the few places less appealing to me than the Union Square area. Anyway, we can only open our windows six inches or so because apparently throwing yourself off of something tall is the only way to commit suicide.

I thought the aesthetic was to contrived. Meaning, created by people who have no major idea about the renisance time perioid except for general ideas and attempted to reconstruct the renisance in its whole as a theme. so...cool people indeed.

I'm living in Montreal now, which is you know, quite an alright city when you think about it. Probably the most ethnical city ever as well which is interesting too. But yeah, musical scene up here is pretty brilliant compared to other Canadian cities.. But all that snow, jesus, I just cannot cope with it all the way up to April. I liked the one or two silly inches we get in England better. Also liked everyone going mad, closing roads and schools and that. Montreal sorta reminds me of Manchester tho at times, but it's not quite as dodgy... Although Verdun does get pretty rough. Haha, well, it's not home but you know, it's aright. i am kind of from a lot of places. i was born in the house that i live in now and that is near ann arbor, michigan. but since then i went to a boarding school in ohio (which is where i first heard neutral milk hotel), got kicked out (for reasons that will not be discussed), went to india for a few months (had a private audiance with the dalai lama), then to vietnam and cambodia to do some service for a bit (we helped to build a house for a woman who had her leg blown off by a landmine, among other things). came home, went to crete in greece for this cultural immersion thing, came home, lived in oxford, england for a few months, came home, then i worked at a summer camp in northern michigan. there were a few more little countries that i made my way to along this great path called life and now i go to a small environmental college near asheville, north carolina.
so i guess i'd like to consider myself a citizen of the world.
