I know we all like the Elephant 6 bands and they use a plethora of unusual/exotic instruments. Also, I know a lot of us are musicians and are probably into the multi-instrumantalism too.

Post what instruments you have (specificly exotic/unusual)...

I have:
An air organ, a glockenspiel, a theremin, a Hawaiian tremoloa, some kazoos and harmonicas, an old brass bugle and an array of whistles and noisemakers. I also have a '73 Rickenbacker bass, a newish Fender Jazz bass and a generic classical acoustic guitar...

two accordions, mandolin, kazoos, harmonicas, a psaltry, a '68 Fender Palomino (the acoustic played in "Starsky and Hutch", a '78 Fender Jazz bass, a Rhodes Stage piano, and a theremin.

Only a cello, and assorted kazoos that I never unburdened myself from after youth. :[ Though I think the cello is worth its weight in gold, personally ...

mandolin, ukeleele (spelling?), kazoos, tuba, assorted keyboards, drum machine, 78' telecaster, gibson les paul, vox ac15, theremin, and the only instrument I can properly play - fernando rivero classical guitar (which is certainly not just an acoustic guitar with nylon strings)

Acoustic Guitar (Galveston)
Electric Guitar (Fender Mustang)
Drum Machine (Yamaha X-11)
Accordion (some kind of student model, only has 12 bass buttons)
An array of cheap keyboards
Some weird electric air organ my dad got at a yard sale
Miscellaneous shaker-like percussion things (mostly homemade)
A crusty old harmonica that I refuse to ever put near my mouth again, and keep on wondering why I haven't thrown it away
A small acoustic guitar (designed for kids) *not a ukelele*

the list of instruments I'd *like* to have is ten miles long.

Singin' is wonderful; I do it all the time!!!

When you do go for lessons, ask your instructor to incorporate solfeggio (Do Re Mi Fa Sol La Ti Do, an octave) into your training. Solfege, was designed for the singer as the phrases end in vowels. Vowels are what a singer should sing on when singing a word. The word carries and sounds better when sung that way. What makes Solfege really neato are these:

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a286/GrossDaddy57/handsigns.gif

Hand signals! Furthur: there is a chromatic scale too. Do Di Re Ri Mi Fa Fi Sol Si La Li Ti Do (ascending) and Do Ti Te La Le Sol Se Fa Mi Me Re Ra Do (descending). To Sign a Sharp (#) or Flat (b) note simply use the right hand for the Major 7 signs and the left hand pointing up or down. For example, Di is signed with the right hand Do. The left hand points up at the same time indicating that the note is sharped.

It is tricky at first to sing and hand sign a note at the same time (especially using the chromatic scale), but with practice a singer will develop a strong sense of tonal memory, which to me, is one of the most important aspects to singing and music in general.

Please keep in touch (via, threads, U2U, e-mail) during your singing adventures. I am interested in reading how you enjoy and progress.

Fare Thee Well,

DRG 4 (487)

P.S. I know that I gave you quite a bit of information. It took me two to three years (given in snippets during choir) to learn and explain all of that. Still, if you really want to boil your noodle, I find it ironic that Mi is pronounced Me. Me (flat Mi) is pronounced May. Yea…….Welll………uhmmmmm………I’m going to go now.

GrossDaddy57…………over and out____________

Ah Grossdaddy, you never cease to amaze me with the delightful lengths of your posts. I'm getting the lessons from my best friend's mom in return for tutoring her little sister in math. They're such a neat family. Both the parents have music degrees, my friend is currently working on her music degree, and the list of musical instruments in their house would probably even outdo the length of your average post.

I recall learning a bit about Do Re Mi stuff in elementary school, but I shall definintely make sure I get a refresher. Thanks for sharing your wisdom! I will keep you updated.

Not even close to rich...Just an accumulator. I never sell anything. Most of the guitars are cheap. Especially the Danos and Ibanez'. Ebay and garage sales/swap meets are great places to score oddball instruments.
