has anyone else heard this band? i went to a Flaming Lips show a couple months back and they were one of the opening bands along with Liz Phair. Starlight Mints started off and were amazing; Liz Phair was second and was dull and annoying; and of course the Flaming Lips blew everyone away!
anyways... the reason i'm posting this here is because of the last sentence in this article for tonights show...

now having heard the band i wouldn't compare them at all to any of those bands, asides from the fact that they are really good! it just seemed bizarre that they threw out those three bands... if anyone else in here is in the San Diego area, i highly recommend checking them out!

Is Steve Burns the dude from Blues Clues? He made a record and Steven Drodz and Michael Ivings play on it.
I like the Starlight Mints, but wouldn't compare them to OTC.

yes steve burns is the guy from blues clues
pitchfork reviewed his record today, but i listened to some of it and didn't care much for it
but starlight mints will be his backing band (i think)
i like the starlight mints, my friend has been a fan of theres for a while and turned me onto them, i thought their show with the lips was great, i don't think i'm gonna make their show this time around though cause its my friends going away party that night, but i will also reccomend them

About Liz Phair...
She's always been somewhat sexual, but she was a good artist, and I used to like her stuff, but now it just seems like she's just pushing the fact that she's sexy..
Can't one female musician go without rubbing themselves and not wearing many clothes in order to become popular and famous? Its really dissappointing. And now she is like big time... This does not send out a very positive message.

i hadn't heard much by her, but when i saw her open for the lips i felt like throwing a rock at her. it was terrilbe and such a mood killer after the starlight mints. i hope i never have to sit through her crap again.

I really liked her earlier stuff... This stuff is so raunchy and bad..
I just wish female musicians didn't think they had to use sex to sell their albums.. Her music was good before she sold her soul.

i think its okay, but when sex or how you look is the only thing selling your music, its either pointless or insulting

i think its fine to show off your looks, just have some quality music to back it up. if you come out looking good but sound like shit then i'm gonna wanna throw a rock at you :D
anyways back to the starlight mints, i'm kind of bummed i'm gonna miss their show

The point was that she used to be good, and now that she is "famous" it seems that her music is suffering yet she is extremely concerned with her looks..
Cat Power is someone who is beautiful and writes incredible music. I think you can be a beautiful woman, and still write good music.
I'm just saying Liz Phair is coming off more Christina Agulara these days..

Yep, Liz Phair has always been sexual. And also very attractive... Neither of these things are bad.
What is bad is that her new album is not very good (IMO) and it seems that she's trying to use sex to push her album..
I used to love Steve from Blues Clues! I have many nieces and nephews.. I don't know why I liked him, I just did. I heard that's why he got kicked off the show.. Because of his music..

The new Liz Phair album is horrible yet the media/public really enjoys it. I love Exile in Guyville and her other two albums but not the new one. Half-Handed, don't even bother buying it! In my opinion her new album is catered to the avril loving, brittany wanna-be pre-pubescent girls and horny males...that may be a tad harsh....
I like the starlight mints thought. Like erik I'm still getting use to the second album, their sound changed.
I need to download the Steve Burns album and see how it sounds.
