just a warning: if you dont play guitar, the following paragraphs are going to make you want to stab yourself in the face.

does anyone know what jeff mangum's live guitar setup was?

i played bass guitar forever, in someone elses band, but now i've started my own band where i play acoustic guitar, and i'm having all kinds of problems.

the first show we played, i just mic'd my acoustic guitar, but i guess i move around too much, and no one can hear what i'm playing. so after that, i bought one of those little detachable soundhole pickup things, and have since been plugging into the PA. i'd like to get some kind of amp or something, that i can control my own sound with(you can't ever trust sound guys around here). i love really clicky crunchy gross acoustic guitar sounds, like, in the aeroplane over the sea has the best guitar sound of all time. period.

anyway, i noticed in the pictures he plays an archtop acoustic guitar, that has some sort of pickup built into it. if anyone knows what brand of guitar this is, i'd freak out and give you a big kiss. it's important to me that i rip off jeff mangums setup entirely.

also, does anyone know what he plugged into? i've seen a few pictures, but i can't ever make out what it is.

if any of you live in arizona, check out the listing for the gold rush murders at august 20th at www.modified.org . "think neutral milk hotel". hehe, i'm so proud.

i'll look through some pictures to see
exactly what brand of guitar it is.
it is an archtop with a pickup.

the amp was mostly a ampeg reverberocket 2.
that thing... what a shambles.

i have an earlier model.
it's got a great warm sound.
jeff of course had it cranked really
loud. there is another cheapo amp
he'd sometimes would use as well.
i'll see if i can spot it in some photos.
his stomp box i think was a big muff.

b.p.

An archtop with a pickup can also be heard on Radiohead's "Go to Sleep." I love that sound and I want one of those guitars.

thanks guys. i drove out to los angeles to check out the fabled strip of vintage guitar stores. mostly i just got shoved around by slick dudes with ponytails trying to sell me telecasters. man, do i hate tele snobs. i found a cool store called "black market music", and ended up with an old 60's gibson hawk combo amp(sounds amazing) and an old harmony hollowbody electric guitar. still looking for the acoustic archtop though.
