didn't there used to be a "Dusk vs. Foliage" thread here? we should get that one going again, or start one, or something. I prefer Black Foliage myself, but by a narrow margin. They are both stellar albums, and in my opinion, Black Foliage is better than Aeroplane. but that's just me.

my girlfriend and another friend of ours listened to foliage while shrooming several years ago...during the extended sound collages through the middle of the album it got really intense...i can laugh now but for a little while it was actually frightening haha....but then those sweet melodies returned and brought us back to earth!

I would have to disagree... it's a very intense album, but it's not a bad drug-doing album.

I must agree. I caught on to Olivia Tremor Control...uh...approximately a week and half ago when I found the album USED for six dollars. Man whoever traded that back to the store...
Pure joy.

Though I don't recommend listening to it if those in your company are Robotrippin'.

I really disagree about the "less filler" comment. Although I love every single track of Cubist Castle, I would say that if anything, that has more filler.

Black Foliage is brilliant; Dusk is grand. they are both masterpieces. but I enjoy the songwriting on Black Foliage a hair more. Not sure why.

hello everyone, this is my first post on this site. i'm from wales and think that the OTC are the best. i finally got to see them this year at ATP which was the most mindblowing thing i've ever seen! meeting them was the icing! black foliage is my favourite album of them all and Cubist is the second - although i don't want to bore you with MY opinions. what i'm here to tell you all is that i've invented a new way to listen to Black Foliage (this will also apply to Dusk), hopefully this will have an effect on us all! Basically, a group of people, (preferably people well aquainted with OTC) get together, each with their own set of headphones. Then everyone must plug into the same system (this may mean that the purchase of a headphone splitter is necessary). A selection of cards must be made beforehand with simple diagrams on them (eg - left, right, drums, bass, guitar, bill voc, will voc, etc). everyone listens to the album, with one person in particular being the ringleader in charge of the cards. he/she tunes into whatever is popping out of the phones and into their heads and holds up the corresponding card illustrating to the rest of the group what exactly THEY should be tuning into! this way EVERYONE in the group is experiencing the the same thing specifically. ie listen to "a place we have been to" several times and pick a different instrument each time. The ringleader canges after each song. i haven't tried this myself, or even finalised the specific rules but i KNOW it will work! After listening to Foliage for three months on just the left speaker and then three months on just the right and then months on end listening to it on headphones, tuning into specific instruments for the album in its entirety and then repeating this process with a different instrument picked out, it became apparent that this new Olivia Tremor Group Control game was the next logical step! Let me know what you think - i told Will and John my plans at ATP but they just stared blankly at me as if i was about to assasinate them! Just remember in years to come when the Olivia Tremor Control rule the planet that I, Pixy Jones, was the inventor of the Olivia Tremor Group Control game that was being practised by millions on a day to day basis! thank you. Good Night.

Disclaimer: i am wasted! (but i mean everthing that i say!)

Well that sure is a unique way of listening to it! :D (I wish I could fill a room with people who appreciate the album! ;) )

Welcome to the forum! I love Wales, where abouts are you from?

I first bought Black Foliage, and i liked it a lot. But, there is nothing compared to Dusk, i mean..i can hardly listen to black foliage anymore because dusk is so great. How can you beat holiday surprise?? and green typewriters, thats genius

I can't wait for the oxygen to get thin
I twist around in my seat

Taking light from the sky
Teasing all the people with pictures of you
Cause it's a holiday surprise

i've been playing holiday surprise on the acoustic all day today. i was never into that song all that much until i heard it live, now i can't understand how i didn't realize the awesomeness before. however, i gave black foliage the headphones treatment last night and have to say that i like it better than dusk.
