View Full Version : I want a poster of The Gay Parade... but how?

If there's one completely impractical, but awesome-beyond-belief thing that I want, it's a large poster of the artwork from Of Montreal's The Gay Parade. I'm talking the entire thing from the CD insert when unfolded. That would be perfectly incredible for my dorm room (I'm going to college in... 8 hours).
However, I know of no possible way to get/make one. I can't go to Kinko's Copies and get one made because, well, they have a policy against copying/enlarging copyrighted material, and the artwork I want is obviously a copyright.
They say that if you have documentation from the creator of the copyrighted material, then they will allow it. Unfortunately, I don't see how I would exactly accomplish this. Who would I contact? Of Montreal themselves, or David Barnes? What would I say? I can't see them letting me do it, anyway.
Other than that, I cannot think of any other possible way to do it. I can't print one out myself, as a printer cannot handle a large sheet of paper, or at least do it without ugly creases. Plus, the print quality would be below-average, and just finding a sheet of paper that large would be impossible.
In fact, the more I think of it, the more my dreams of a Gay Parade poster are getting denied. But do any of you people have a wonderful, fantastic idea on how to accomplish this, preferrably for a semi-low cost?

David Barnes is a delightful and friendly person, and if you requested his permission, I bet he'd be extremely lovely and give it to you.
However, I'm too lazy to find his email for you. But you know... bees and wheels and stuff.

You know, I actually just came across that poster, everythingfallstogether. Although I'm not looking at my actual CD booklet right now, it doesn't seem like it's the entire gay parade. But hell, for $2... it's a damn steal.

the picasa website i believe is worth checking into. i had a gigantic poster of the last supper for my dorm room last year thatg i believe was made with that program. it took up one wall completely. how it works, if you can imagine, is on each sheet of paper, it prints out the pixels. so each page is filled with lots of little dots. when combined together forms the picture. it has a good effect. you might want to look into that.

I have a Mac, and on iPhoto, you can take any of the pictures on your hard drive and they can make and send a poster to you, but:
1. I don't have a scanner - I'm actually in my dorm room right now.
2. It's probably way overpriced.
But I could give it a shot when I go home for labor day weekend.

Well, I gave Mr. David Barnes an e-mail. Hopefully, he will e-mail me back with positive news.

Maybe he even has a high resolution copy he can post you? I bet scanning in the small CD picture image and enlarging it will loose a lot of quality. Anyway, let us know how it turns out! Its would be such a great thing to have! :P

I present to you all, my reply from David Barnes:
pat,
i would love for you to have a poster of the entire gay parade. i personally wouldn't know how to make that happen. i guess a kinkos like place is your best bet and i would be happy to give you persmission to do it. i don't know how you could let them know that you have permission. i would totally do it for you but to be completely honest i'm just too busy right know. i don't mean that in a jerk way just in an honest way. but i would be very happy to give you permission to do so.
yours,
david
The problem, however, as The Sad Witch pointed out, is that the CD version is very small, and very low in quality. I'm thinking that if it was enlarged, it would look pretty crappy and blurry. I did ask him if there was a way he could make me a poster and sell it to me, and that's why he said that he's too busy.
Unfortunately, I think I'm going to wait on it. I don't want to spend the probably ridiculous amount of money that Kinko's would charge for a poster that's blurry and crappy-looking.
I gave him an e-mail back - I will post once again with the reply.
