hmm, i may submit something, my hardrive crashed two weeks ago and i havent been able to find any of my backup cds yet (which is really irratating), but one song has survived, though its one i dont much care for, so blah blah blah. Since I am going to have a go at mastering the submissions (not hardcore mastering - basically just cleaning stuff up a bit and a little limiting to level everything off if necessary) I wish we had done this with .wav files instead but if you have to send MP3 PLEASE BE SURE TO ENCODE WITH AS HIGH A BIT RATE AS POSSIBLE. PREFERRABLY 320kbps.!!! If you haven't sent in your submission yet get in contact witrh hypecity and see if the gmail account can handle the size of the wav files or if there's only room for mp3//

I think it's more what we can handle sending then what can
be recieved. I've seen time-outs on anything above 14mb
when attaching files to the email.

When can we hear the tracks? How many people have

Alright... hypecity has had an unfortunate incident involving the sound device on his laptop so I will be taking over from here on out...

When I last checked the gmail account we had about a dozen or so submissions so far... I will set a tentative deadline for Friday, September 9... that's one more week for anyone who hasn't gotten their stuff in...

I would really appreciate it if everyone encoded at 320kbps and included some info as to how they recorded their song (i.e. Software (Pro Tools, etc..., hard-disk recorder) and, importantly, whether or not they performed any self-mastering (i.e. compression on main out, etc...) since this info will help me when I go to master the material... by "master" I mean a little peak limiting if necessary to ensure a somewhat level volume throughout the cd and slight eq'ing if necessary... I will be using WAVES Diamond Bundle and Izotope's Ozone as well as PSP's Vintage Warmer.

Also be sure to include (this may seem silly but you'd be surprised) the TITLE OF THE SONG and HOW YOU WANT THE SONG CREDITED and YOUR LOCATION (city/state) for the insert and mp3 text file. IF YOU HAVE ALREADY SENT IN YOUR SUBMISSION AND DID NOT INCLUDE THIS INFO PLEASE SEND A SEPARATE EMAIL TO THE GMAIL ACCOUNT WITH YOUR SONG NAME/BAND NAME IN THE SUBJECT SO I CAN MATCH THEM UP EASILY.

I will start listening to what's there this week and then whatever comes in before the deadline next weekend... I am in the middle of recording my band, National Steel's next EP so it's going to take a couple of weeks but it will be good... I am looking forward to this guys...

Alright guys... I think we will probably resequence by similarity than by first-come first-serve... it'll make for a more strreamlined listening experience... I have grabbed the tracks by The Jesus Vibes, Blight, Symphonic Sprites, Imota, and Ultraviolet Fuzz... They all sound pretty cool though I just gave them once overs... This weekend I will run them through some software and then I will set up a new gmail account just for us where you guys can go to hear the finished masters of your songs. Don't expect any miracles just a little volume boost and some slight "sheen"... Keep em coming...

OK guys here's the deal...

As I began going over the first half dozen songs or so I ran into a problem I should've anticipated...

When you send recordings through the mastering process it tends to exaggerate problems inherent in inferior recordings... little hisses become bigger hisses and clicks and pops and so on... For those who made their recordings on four-tracks and the like this might be a problem... For those who did it on a computer with DAW sequencer-software it shouldn't be a problem...

The solution: For those recordings that get worse when passed through a mastering process I will instead just boost the levels a bit but will not be able to do any "sonic enhancement or processing"... The goal here is to make everybody's recording sound as good as it possibly can... I will let each of you know when your song is done and what was done to it...
