i didn't say it wasn't on-topic... what's with the pine-cones up your asses today? relax everyone...

i just didn't understand why he/she felt like posting the tour date without any words attached to it...

maybe i'm just sore it's 21 plus. still, it's not exactly news.

i can make arrangements for people who aren't 21+.
email info .at. thecritique .dot. org

the easiest way to have a show and have the overheads be low is to have it in a bar. but pa's lounge has had all-ages and 18+ shows in the past and they're very nice people.

i don't want anyone interested in the show to miss it because of 21+.
however, you have to promise not to be all cranky and rude.

haha, sorry man... i didn't notice you were from the booking co. and that's very kind of you, i appreciate when the people behind the scenes at clubs/shows can understand that sort of thing and just put a mark on someone's hand so they can still enjoy the show (and unfortunately that's not often the case in clubs around boston).

unfortunately i've got friends from out of town coming in that night with other plans in mind (and poor taste in music to boot). thanks again though, i really do appreciate the sort of thing.

most shows in boston are 18+

Why doesn't A Hawk and a Hacksaw have its own forum? Darkness at Noon kicks ass and yes, there were other people in the band other than Jeff, so until a new forum is constructed I welcome any news on AHAAH with open arms, even if I am 1000 miles away.

Does anyone have any Hawk and a Hacksaw live recordings? I've heard nothing but good things about their/his performances.

oooh yeah, thecpr, if you could get a soundboard recording of the show tonight, and share it online, that would be sweet.

man,
that music was okay, but the vibe was so weird and pretentious. Everybody sat down indian style, sorry pretzel-feet, like it was a grammar school assembly. Colleen was good, so was the other dude with his laptop, but it was not the rock show concert music I was expecting. Is this the future of indie rock? People sitting down on the floor? Should we bring pillows for our asses as well as plugs for our ears?
By the time J. Barnes took to the stage it was yawn o' clock. I keep an open mind for music, yes, but I set my expectations too high with this one. I realized on the walk home that seeing the new project of any of my favorite drummers would not guarantee greatness. Seriously, imagine a side project of Ringo, of Max Weinberg, Charlie Watts, Jody Stephens, Carlton Barrett, David Ryan. Think of any of your favorite bands, and think of their drummer. Would you really like to see a side-project by them?
It's not like Jeremy Barnes didn't have something to offer, it just wasn't what I was interested in receiving on a Friday eve. It was cool though that he played accordien and drums at the same time, and hit a cymbal with a stick stuck in his hat, but it just ain't the ferocious playing of Holland, 1945, friends. This is fine, but I guess I was just in the wrong mindset. That's all. It's probably my fault for letting the back of my mind push thoughts to the forefront that this would be an awesome near-religious experience. It was a show, and the music was good, but it did not take me anywhere outside the room, and it did not prevent my butt from being tired sitting for so long.

patio, any problems you had with the show/music are your own fault. not all music is made for "rock show concerts". and no, this is not the "future of indie rock", what a ridiculous thing to say.

Oh yeah, I agree 100 percent that it's my fault I didn't enjoy it. I had the wrong expectations going in. I said that.

And as far as the "future of indie rock" joke, of course it was a ridiculous thing to say, that's why I said it. I have just been to a lot of shows where the performers demand the audience be quiet, and I simply wasn't in the right mindset for it on Friday night. It's nothing against any of these people's music.

Well, I absolutely loved the show they played in Manchester, even if they only ended up playing about 4 songs. I was dying to pick up my accordion afterwards and just play for hours, which I guess is about as inspiring as you could hope for. Probably one of the best gigs I've been to all year, possibly because it was the least like an actual formal gig. The best thing about Hawk & a Hacksaw shows are the way the band and the audience are so fluid - I wouldn't say it was 'pretentious' - they're playing eastern European folk music, mainly, and that's how an eastern European folk concert would be.

patio, i'm sorry you were disappointed by the show. as i told jeremy later, it was my favorite show i've EVER seen. i thought that everyone was amazing (the opener, btw, was keith fullerton whitman, who also records are hrvatski: http://www.keithfullertonwhitman.com). jeremy and heather are just brilliant, i think--particularly the end, where they left the stage and did that "dueling" song and he was lying on the floor and just generally ripping it up.

sorry also i didn't record this. i never think to record things, and i didn't see these posts til now.

i really recommend AHAAH live--if you don't into it expecting NMH but instead go into expecting fantastic, virtuosic music, you will not be disappointed.

so far as the sitting on the floor thing goes, i have been to a LOT of shows lately where this has been the case. i think that when people are really listening, the sitting on the floor thing makes sense. this was a "concert" more than a "gig" in that people were there to LISTEN and not to chatter. so in that respect it's awesome. if you're in the back of the room and you need to get to the bar and you can't cross the room for the sitters, it's a hassle.

thanks to everyone who came to the show.

Anyway, someone really should organize A Hawk and A Hacksaw board. They rock, except when people are sitting indian style, then it sucks. I'm a true believer that the quality of music depends on the sitting position you and other people in the room are in as it is being played. That was the downfall of Neutral Milk Hotel. Everyone started crouching at their performances and Jeff couldn't take it anymore.

Ignore the last few sentences and someone just put up a hawk and a hacksaw board.
