Well, the old forum is gone. Apparently it had been hacked (look in the E6 and bp helium message group)...
So whatever it was you posted, I guess you need to post it again!

Hi!
Well the question I asked was:
Does anyone know the exact chords to Old familiar Way? I mean its not that hard, and i know post of it, but just need some guiding :)
Second,
I love the Gay Parade (i have that one and Conc... etc) which other albums by Of Montreal/or similar should i buy next if want the same sound as one The Gay Parade?
(i know someone replied to the old post on the old board, but never saw the reply)
thnx! :)

yes they did. the only thing that stinks is that we lost all of our old posts...that is to say, there were so many great topics on the old board. all those recommendation posts were amazing. i found out about so many great bands etc.
anyways, i too was looking forward to printing off the chords...:(

hey!
i did post this on the last board, but i'll do it again...
(note: the chord in parentheses isn't right, it's really some sort of diminished chord, but i never could figure those kinds of chords out -- and kevin uses lots of them!!! arrrrggggggggh)
intro:
G# -- F# -- F#/C# -- C#
verse:
C# -- A#7 -- D#m -- F#m
C# -- (C#/G) -- F# -- D#m
C# -- (C#/G) -- F# -- C#
F7 -- C#7 -- F#
repeat verse again, except the last couple chords are slightly different (you can figure 'em out)...
bridge:
F -- F# -- G# -- G#/F# -- C# -- A -- E
F -- F# -- C# -- D#7 -- G#7
back to intro, verse, etc.
i'm sure there's an easier way to explain this...you could put a capo on the first fret and then all the sharps "disappear" (you'd just play shapes for G, F, C, etc...but then you'd have to play an E7 shape for the F7, etc...)
hope this helps! sorry i'm not a good guitar teacher on-line...

Thnx for all the replies!
Need more regarding the bands/albums that sound Gay-paradish ;)
I tried figuring out lil bit of hte song myself:
C# - Ddim - D#m - F#m
C# - Gdim - F#
C# - Gdim - Cdim - C#/Bb
Adim - C# - F#
Havent tried for the rest of the song.

i repied that the bedside drama:a petite tragedy was similar two those other two records by of montreal. it's conceptual, though not quite as over the top. more of a first person story. might be my favorite of theirs, though.

What about other releases by other bands? Which has that same sorta piano sound to it, with 60's references?

Come one guys, someone has to know, there's has to be either some other groups or albums by Of Montreal, that has that same kinda sound to it as the Gay Parade? (reffering to the distinctivly used piano)

What I wouldn't do for another album along the lines of gay parade! harry nilsson's "the point" is a great album. an album like that seems to be extremely rare though. gay parade is definitely my favorite of montreal album, with petite tradgedy being a close second. I remember the first time I bought petite tradgedy a few years back, and was blown away. Then when I heard Gay Parade was coming out, I bought it as soon as I could, and I couldn't believe they had outdone the previous! SUCH a great album! If music history has any justice, it will go down as one of the most inventive, creative, and catchy albums of all time (in my opinion).

THAT was a good day! I feel like an idiot for not mentioning my own dear brother's work under the name "driftin' luke and his many personalities". To date, he has completed at least 2 full-length, somewhat lo-fi, home-recorded albums entitled "the road to angelove: salt city, and the road to angelove: sea city". I regard these as on the level with gay parade, the point, and pretty much any other album I think of as ingenius. Yes, maybe I'm biased, but the fact remains.

Yep! As usual I have to agree when it comes to praising the Driftin' Luke/Channel stuff... Hope you all aren't getting too bored with me!
For the ones interested in piano driven songs: listen to the short but sweet track "Passing by the old Smokey Mountain" on the Salt City record and the last track on the same record. Both are real treasures!

I want to come live with Haenric. So how is Sweden these days? I hope your weather has been friendlier than ours lately. It's been really hot and sticky, and every year around this time, they burn their crops in Central America, and the smoke billows into our air here, pretty much blocking out the sun, and causing the clouds to kind of lose their definition. It also makes the air heavier and causes some people respiratory problems. If anyone in Central America reads this, please start an uprising against the annual mass burning of crops.
PS. We had a LOT of fun seeing and hearing and playing with Of Montreal!

those are 2 songs by "driftin' luke and his many personalities". email us at thechannel4@hotmail.com, and maybe we could email you a few samples or something along those lines. if your email service won't fit large files, just go to www.c-siderecords.com and there are a couple of mp3's but i don't think the above mentioned songs are available to download. okay, hope that helps!

Yikes, that crop burning seems nasty! I hope the Danes and Germans on the continent don't start with that over here as well. And then that sticky weather on top of it!
Over here it was still snow just a few weeks ago, but it's really picking up nicely now! Today it was such nice sunny weather and I promise, the clouds were really beautiful too. Me and some friends even had a nice coffee break in the sun. So why don't you guys skip the sticky and smokey climate for a while and get over here to enjoy the spring in southern Sweden? The flowers are just bursting everywhere and it's amazing how green it is. Sorry bout this shameless propaganda but I certainly wouldn't mind if the Channel decided to go on a European Tour in the near future!!! Hehe, the end justifies the means...
