BP, you are the best!
One question: at the Knitting Factory show, will that be like a regular, full set? Just wondering 'cause it is part of the "showcase". I have a friend I am trying to send.

oh man i am so excitedddd! thankyou for posting this b.p.
i thought all northsix shows were 18+ though?
thelatebphelium
07-05-2005, 05:55 PM
CMJ: i'm not sure how long our set will be.
probably an hour. maybe 45 minutes. i dunno.
it will be a little bit shorter most likely because of CMJ.
Northsix: what i have says 16+. you might want to call them
and double check though. some clubs have different age
limitations for different shows. we always stress all ages.
so i bet it is 16+. probably as low as they will go.

we might have to play the big room at higher ground.

sweet. :D
sound problems aside, that was a fun show.
So was the wacky little rap thing going on in the big room, I wandered into that after.
242 is kind of small, but it's got better acoustics. But the most squishy stageboards I think I've ever had the displeasure of trying to set things up on. I kept remembering that story of the bet between the early Beatles and Rory Storme of the Hurricanes, did you ever hear that one? apparently the stage at the Star Club was worse, boards rotted, nails coming out... they bet each other a case of beer as to which band could make the stage collapse.
Now, I read it ages ago, so I don't remember the ending, but I think the Hurricanes won.
If you arrive in Vermont earlier in the day, and you know you might be doing so, give me a buzz. I still think you guys should be on my wacky little music cable access show. ;)

That's because Toledo sucks. If you didn't live here, would you want to come play here? I'd much rather see them in Ann Arbor anyhow. Then again, the Underground is getting be a decent place to see shows here in Toledo. AUGUST 4TH WILL BE SO FUN!!! :D:D:D:D

One of the most exquisite sights to witness here. I am guessing you are on the central coast somewhere? Some of my favourite places are there...
Last night I dreamed that Kevin was going to play guitar in our band, but he didn't want to move to California. I said something like, 'well, I guess we have to be jet-setters, then.' He said, 'yeah, that sounds good'.

a danish booker said so, from play/rec. they arranged a mt. eerie concert earlier this year and a mates of state concert some years back. I really hope this is going to happen because last time you were around here it you ended up playing several shows in south sweden but none in denmark.

do it. i went to my first club show (superchunk/sonic youth) with my dad when i was 14. course he hung around the bar watching baseball on tv while my mind was blown in the other room where the show was. but he bought me a 'dirty' shirt afterwards which i still wear to this day. memories.

Hey... all you people begging for an Iowa City / Des Moines show -- Dekalb is NOT that far away from you guys -- it's just over an hour and a half from the Iowa border.
I live in the Quad Cities (right on the border) and usually go to every Chicago/Champaign/Iowa City OM gig... this might be the first time they've ever played Dekalb.
I am DEFINITELY going to the Dekalb AND Chicago shows, so if any of you guys wanna carpool or need a place to crash en route, you're more than welcome to stop by the Quad Cities -- we're right on I-80 on the IL/IA border.
E-mail me at sbrown@qconline.com or shane@excellentonline.com if anybody wants to meet up.

Ha, yes, '75 is probably a little closer to the mark, we do after all have the biggest bay city roller fanbase in the entire world nestled in this fair town(probably not true). But if of montreal were to make a fleeting appereance we'll be sure to bring out the bunting and have a very merry old time.

Wolverhampton is all right - it's got some decent pubs, a decent record shop and the most implausibly huge branch of Netto I've ever seen. Most of the time I was in that area I seemed to spend in the deepest darkest depths of the Black Country (Sedgley, Gornal...) so Wolverhampton was a breath of fresh air. But you have the Civic whereas Reading gets about two gigs a year if you don't count Ocean F cking Colour F cking Scene, so you definitely have the last laugh.
Well that was rather easy, please excuse my idoitism.
I live in in sedgley, gornal, well, just sedgley. Thats rather bizzare, i spend 1 third of my life trying to find locals with similar taste and 10 minutes after my first post on here i find an ex-local with similar taste. Sod's law is what i think they call it.
Did you ever frequent The Beacon Hotel in your time in the midlands?

I was told many times how nice the Beacon is but that never translated into an actual trip there (they brew their own beer, don't they?). Instead I was usually dragged to Monty's Wine Bar (in the bullring) prior to a slap-up meal at Balti Bazaar...
:o You visited Sedgley and didn't feel compelled to stay here for the rest of your life? Blimey. Did you know that there is extensive evidence proving that cancer started in Monty's.
Thats not entirely true, but it is a very unpleasant place.
Yeah the Beacon is good, we brew the world famous ruby mild amongest others.
The wolverhampton record shop you spoke of has unfortunately closed (presuming you meant either mike loyds or highway 61/2/3/4/5/6/7/8/9(i forget it's exact name)) we now have a HMV and some other rubbish thing (although i was fortunate to stumble across aerial pink's worn copy in HMV). There has been no sudden influx of E6 fans in your absence, i'm fairly confident i can name all 3 of us. Numbers will improve.

I do have some fond memories of the Black Country though - the people are great, it's an ace accent and there's lovely countryside nearby. I particularly enjoyed the Crooked Man at Himley.
Highway 61(?) was the shop I had in mind. I saw a copy of the Circulatory System record there once and I nearly passed out in shock.
Thats true the black country is prized for it's fellow man, especially now that the BNP has the Tipton seat.
To be honest it's probably a little unfair to include Tipton, they are a breed of there own(though they make wonderful pies and pork scracthings).
Circulatory system album! now there is a shock, the best thing i found was, In the aeroplane, all the way in Tempest in Birmingham about 5 years too late, it came with the tag "modest mouse fans will love this", they may possibly have had an Apples' 7" too, but i forget, may have been somewhere completely different. Nevertheless, its a poor area for music shops nowadays. Although it is impossible to complain about the bands we have come to visit(though otc playing anywhere but Camber Sands would be nice), well, i say impossible, what i actually mean is that i'm glad ocean f'ing colour f'ing scene have gone south.

i will always have wolverhampton to thank as it was where i saw the beta band for the first time. and theres a lovely guest house near by with suits of armour and swords and more fancy stuff!
if OM fancy seeing the beach, come to bournemouth. The BIC should be all revamped by then.
All we get is Gene Pitney, although i don't mind 24 hours from Tulsa!

I didn't even know they were playing there, i'm obviously not the devoted fan i thought i was. To be honest i can't get to gigs too far away from my house (i don't drive, no fundage, no friends etc etc) and london's no place for the timid, so i'm almost relieved, knowingly missing them would have broken my heart like it did with ATP (and NMH/sparklehorse in '98(i'll never recover)):(.
I bet it was spectacular, i'm going to look for write ups.

There is a recording of their first comeback gig at the 40watt which is good stuff, but I'm sure the later gigs far surpass it.
Surely you're not too timid for London?
Well yeah, to be honest i've only registered this week of hearing the OM tour news, and obviously there's not much in the uk music press about any of the E6 bands, particulary OTC for some reason. I'll definately keep my eyes peeled for the live bootlegs, i've never even heard a snippet of them live, i can't even begin to imagine how good a show they put on.
It's not so much being too timid (though i reckon i'd implode if i had to go by myself), it's just a massive and vast place and i had a horrible experience last time i ventured down there.
Like alan partridge said, "Go to London, i garantee you'll be either mugged or unapreciated."
I'm guessing i'm going to have to attempt it again in november for this tour. A little fear will probably make the whole thing more exciting anyway so i guess it's fine.

And somehow, listening to happy music like Of Montreal makes me feel worse.

You can talk to the RA if you have a roommate you can't stand, but it has to be a really serious thing. Which yes, it sort of is, but it'd be such a pain in the ass.
First, I'd have to try to talk it over with my roommate. He wouldn't listen.
Then I'd have to try and talk it over with my roommate, in a session with the RA.
If that doesn't work, we'd have to talk it over in a session with the director of my residence hall, which he even said, wouldn't be a good thing, and both of us wouldn't be happy.
Here's just how bad he is:
- He says "Git-R-Done" nearly every thirty seconds.
- He loudly sings country songs constantly. And, it's about the same two lines, as well.
- He absolutely and utterly hates homosexuals. Yes, it seems weird that we even talked about this, but he's the one that brought it up. He thinks gay people (except lesbians, of course) should die, and he even owns a book on why homosexualism is absolutely wrong.
- "Fuck," "Shit," and other various swear words are practically the only words in his vocabulary.
- He's geniunely and insanely stupid.
But none of those are even the worst. He also shouts lewd, quite possibly sexually harassing comments toward every girl or group of girls that walk by. And he has a girlfriend. It's really quite awful.
I'm going to try to go home for the weekend as many times as I can this year.

yep.
as for college roommates - don't worry, i can relate. the first one i ever had was by coincidence already a sophomore w/ a history of residents complaining about him in his first year. and that was when he lived by himself. the first day i met him he said 'i hate white people. i hate you. i hate everyone and everything. don't touch my stuff. don't look at me. etc etc'. he blasted wu-tang clan at maximum volume whenever he was in the room. it was a TINY room.
he became physically threatening in a matter of days and i overheard him tell his one 'friend' over the phone he was going to 'kill that bitch', meaning me of course. to my surprise even w/ the RA and my suitemates on my side i was the one who was forced to move into another room a few floors up b/c the dorm director was a total stooge.
about a month later i heard "Ugo" (short for a very long name) was finally kicked out of the dorm (school?) for harassing my old suitemates. oh, he also locked the door to the one suite (ie 4 rooms) bathroom for hours at a time and always had rolls of deodorant out wherever he went. no one knew why.
the sad thing is only a little over a year ago did i have to live with a guy for 6 months that was in a sense even worse than this. now i live by myself. it's a very good thing

There's a board I was on that censored the words 'gay' and 'homo' so it would be '****sexual' oh yeah it also censored the word 'sex' which was really weird, I didn't understand it at all. I don't know how they decide these things.
Lordy, I'm glad I don't have to live with people like that (both examples!) What does 'git-r-done' actually mean though? I've never heard that before. People can be so horrible and I just don't understand how their brains work that they have to be homophobic/ racist/ sexist :(

'Git-R-Done' is the catchphrase of a southern comedy known only as "Larry the Cable Guy."
I will admit, he is a geniunely funny comedian, and I'll always remember of when I was watching the Blue Collar Comedy Tour on television while I can a sinus infection (which was awful beyond belief).
But his catchphrase has caught on to millions of people, and now everybody says it, sort of like how Dave Chappelle started those fads, too.
As far as Of Montreal, I can't wait to go, but I've no one to go with :( If anyone from this board is going to the Buffalo show, I'd be glad to meet up with you and see what you're really like! Although I'm sure all of you would be disappointed by me.
I saw Of Montreal on Wensday in Asheville, and it was grrrrrrrreat!!! I'd never never seen them live before and had no idea Kevin was such a sexy rock star! And the Management....words can not describe the pure energy radiated by the vibrations of their souls.....
I also asked Dottie about Jeff Mangum and she said that he had gotten married which made me smile and I hope he finds the best of happiness.
Anyway, it's really great to see this board still so active, last time I was here the word was that "elephant 6 is dead", but I guess that isn't true... what's going on? I'm so confused!

The Toronto show last night was spectacular. The crowd wasn't as lively as at Sneaky Dee's earlier in the year, but Lee's Palace (a much bigger venue) was full. And they finished up with Jennifer Louise, perhaps the perfect pop song.
The recording came out a bit better this time ...

hey there, just got home from the OM show at the blind pig. I've got a mildly decent audio recording of it, will be breaking it up into tracks, if anyone can master it a little bit that would be glorious! peace and much love

so lets see the ann arbor show was last night>....................
.................................................. ............................................
we get there early i was pretty excited and we stand by thee door as the management was loading their equiptment into the pig. i walk in after them and bp and dottie are getting ready and bp comes up and says hey and im like hey....he asks if im hawiian and i say no and then asks me if i had a ticket and i say yeah let me get it and he says its cool but i didnt want anyone getting mad so i walk back towards the door and i see K.B. walking back where i was and i uncontrolibly say !hey! and he said hi and i went shake his hand a he says there wet and i said i dotn care...but i was nervouse out my ass and i made a complete fool of my self and just ruined it ..even though i dont remember everything said i just talked out my ass and i let the guy go. we meet up later and wait outside to get in and we were in the middle of the line and i had my hector ormano gloves on (but i dont think the cool sunlandictwins kids got the joke) but we get in and dottie is working the merch and i got a few vinyls and went on. i got a spot really close and the managementplayed and i didnt know what to say. so by the time OM finally came out i was like oh crap i for got the video camera in the back and by then it was packed as a mother and people were trying to get close but i made a chance and got it. i lost my spot but i was close enough and a friend of my taped since she was closer so its cool. i was so pissed the first few minutes of the show because ive got two 6 foot asians in front of me and later on some cick is hpping around in her bra and some other crap i could whine about but all in all this was a great great day and seing them play the new songs, requiem, rapturertm, and jennifer louise and everything else !!! !!!!!!!!!i just wanted to share this with you and hope you r show was great to ...and thank you for reading

I was so excited when they played Jennifer Louise that i crapped my pants. Made for an uncomfortable 2 hour drive home.

Hey max, i was standing right behind you. It was a really good show, too crowded, though. It was cool to her Jennifer Louise, but a song or two pre-aldhils would have been nice.

Well, we drove from Toledo and they sold out RIGHT BEFORE US. Seriously, we were the cut off. They had no mercy, even after we explained we drove an hour (and gas being 3.10 a gallon!). They even stamped stephanie's hand and gave her a braclet, then the owner came up and said they were full. They actually took the braclet off of her!

About how long does an OM set last? I'll be seeing them in London, but alas my last train home is something stupid and don't want to have to miss the end , especially if they play Jennifer Louise :(

lets see, doors opened at 8 the opener went on at 9 and then Of Montreal came on at about 10:15. they played untill about 11:45 i'd say, so thats like an hour and a half or so, and yes Jennifer Louise was the unexpected last song that if you left before it it would totaly suck.

First Of Montreal experience last night in Burlington, VT. Can anyone give me an idea of the setlist they've been playing? I'm fairly new to the band and only knew the songs from Satanic Panic.
It was a much more rocking show than I was expecting! Great energy!

Thanks, John. I gathered as much after reading some of the other threads here.
m3dragon, after poking around lyrics sites I've found out the first encore was "Family Nouveau", off the Japanese presing of the new album, I believe.
