linked on sadtomato, the prose is ridiculously bombastic, one adjective piled on top of another like a feast of pink flesh at a Roman orgy. To the point of it distracting from whatever aesthetical and emotional quality you were trying to depict about the music.

Cringeworthy is another description.

Well, yes. That is all. Sorry for being mean.

i like ms sad tomatos writing! reviews including words i'm able to use in my regular vocabulary are everywhere, but orbitone's writing is so interesting and confusing (in a good way) and fancy and crazy and lovely and obviously a lot of things i couldnt do with a thousand years and a thousand dictionaries....

hahaha, halfhanded is fun-ee

I was sort of lost with her thing about Neutral Milk Hotel entitled 'Quantum and Mangum' to what it had to do with Jeff Mangum..

I liked the 3 music reviews I read by her though...

I'm not personally sure about that style of writing (look what it's kicked off elsewhere on the board - three pages of posts dissecting about 10 words of Neutral Milk Hotel lyrics, I ask you)

If people wind up bickering for 3 months about religion that's their own issue. Things certainly didn't begin that way.

I get the 'Quantum and Mangum' thing and it's one sexy idea.

If anyone ever saw the movie Pi, think of the dark beauty of a seemingly trivial occurence such as milk dispersing randomly over instant black coffee and the patterns that emerge and then submerge, absorbed and turned into white coffee. Stoner material - "everything is beautiful here".

Nevertheless, the prose of the reviews was... yucky and that was that.

you surely lack.
get some.

Main Entry: tact
Pronunciation: 'takt

1 : sensitive mental or aesthetic perception
2 : a keen sense of what to do or say in order to maintain good relations with others or avoid offense
TACT implies delicate and considerate perception of what is appropriate

what do you expect from a politician

I mean, I like Orbitone and that we all love Jeff's music and get a pleasant sense of the greater possibilities of existence, that's pretty nice sort of empathy.

If you think I'm doing this out of spite or whatever, you've the wrong idea. The prose of the reviews was just awfully... yuck; that's about the clearest expression I could get.

Tact... let's not overanalyse things. I wanted to point something out, the metaphysics of what is basic manners and tactful or decadently indulgent is another alltogether longer debate.

so i guess what politician is saying is that he's a jerk, he doesnt care about what other people feel, enjoys fighting, and uses big words improperly to try and feel special.

ak, now i'm being mean. im not a mean person. i think its time to ignore mister politician, for me atleast, for now. i mean, someone who posts specificly to put someone down is just not the kind of person that makes me feel fuzzy inside.
i like fuzzy feelings.

That's cool, of course I knew what I did was mean but it was also felt that telling Orbitone my opinion would be worthwhile. See now, I'm pompous, self-important as well as mean.

Warm fuzzies are nice. So is Neutral Milk Hotel. Let's leave it at that instead of my (metaphorical) public stoning, ok?

Yeah, he was a little rude in his original message but he apologized and he only sounded like he was just being too fancy anyhow.

Lay off him a bit, guys.

Yeah - peace and all that. Opinions are good; personal attacks are bad.

what a happy ending to a touchy thread... hugs and blueberry muffins all 'round

Orbitone's in Eastern Europe now, so I doubt she read this thread anyway. I echo the muffin sentiment--and can we have another group hug?
