yeah, is a good one. nice to know they had two decent albums in em. maybe wouldve been better if they'd spread them out though instead of releasing them back to back?

oh come on, two decent albums?!

all the albums released between 1966 and 1973 were very good, most of them brilliant. for great popmusic check the first batch, as William posted but also including Aftermath. And after this period they made some of the greatest rock albums ever, Beggar's banquet, Let it bleed and Sticky fingers. One of the best live albums ever was also released in this period Get yer yaya's out, and then there are 2 very good albums in Exile on main street (although I think this one is overrated) and Goat's head soup (way too much underrated). After that it all went downhill, but there were a few spakrs of greatness, mainly their Some girls album from 1978.

they were not the Beatles, but they in fact were the Rolling Stones! :)

I'm totally going to see Rolling Stones live. Never do fun little pop bands come within 20 hours of here, so I'm going to satisfy this live show drought by rocking with a bunch of senior citizens.

always felt the bluesier stuff was either dull or unconvincing...the two fave LPs stick out like sore thumbs in their discography. satanic majesties works because it's such a weird perversion of britpsych and the whole RS trip. similarly, i think between the buttons is excellent because they're looking at the british beat sound for inspiration (and making it nastier) rather than at more "american" influences. which is arguable, i suppose, but that's my take. (flowers is mostly good but is a comp). as far as singles go, "we love you" is where it's at. and "dirty work" justifies itself with its sleeve art.

"aftermath" certainly has its moments but, like every RS record, is really inconsistent.

Aftermath, Between the Buttons, Satanic Majesties are all fantastic albums and the singles between Satisfaction and Jumping Jack Flash are all brilliant too:

Sastisfaction
Get Off My Cloud
19th Nervous Breakdown
Mother's Little Helper
Paint It Black
Have You Seen Your Mother, Baby, Standing in the Shadow
Let's Spend The Night Together
We Love You
She's A Rainbow
2000 Light Years From Home
Jumping Jack Flash

I bet many bands would give their fret hands to write that many great singles in a row.

Ha ha ... that one's a classic! I also dig the cover for Mick's solo LP, She's The Boss.

Anybody seen the Rock n' Roll Circus?? The first time I saw it, I thought the Stones were really off their game and the worst performers on there...but then I saw it again and I actually thought they kicked some ass - especially Mick's performance.

The Who really stole the show, though...they did 'A Quick One While He's Away'. Tons o' energy!!!

There's a funny scene where Mick and John Lennon are introducing John's little side project, The Dirty Mac...John is eating a plate of spaghetti or something and keeps referring to Mick very demurely as 'Michael'.

There are other good performances on it as well (early Jethro Tull w/ Tony Iommi on guitar, Taj Mahal, crazy acrobats, etc.)...so if you haven't seen it, it's worth a look.

I have seen it and the Who was definitely the best. The Stones seemed to be trying to hard to be cool. Most of the songs were from Beggars Banquet which is my favorite album, but it didn't translate very well live. They even left out all of the "Hoo Hoo"s from Sympathy for the Devil. Why God, why?

The DVD is still worth it for the Who's performance.
