I saw HOLES recently. It was playing at a cheapie dollar theatre. Anyone have any other good movie suggestions? Rented or now playing...

i just watched the "friends forever" documentary, which was amazing. these guys are taking the burden of saving rock and roll upon themselves and doing it for very little money. i don't know if vision has it, i got it from netflix.

other top recent rentals:
rashomon, y tu mama tambien, the piano teacher (although it is a bit disturbing), base moi (which is similarly disturbing, but made me want to rob banks by the end), i finally saw barbershop, sunshine state, and lonestar, which are all great for discussing american culture 101. i haven't ventured to any new movies recently, so i don't know anything recent.. oh, i saw some documentaries at a film festival, but i don't know how to find them. one was about some people in oregon who engage in school bus demolition derbies, so it is a good primer about prepping a bus for one, if you ever wanted to know. there was another about mud bogging in florida that was quite interesting, then another about a clam in washington state that looks like a penis and the quests that thousands of locals go on to find them. i can't seem to remember the name.

I just saw "28 days later", the new zombie movie and I thought it was pretty good, unless you have to spend 7.75 to go and see it like I did. No one should have to pay that much. On the flip side there is a great grandaddy song in the movie.

Watch Fallen Angels by Wong Kar-Wai.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0112913/

Don't let the plot and generic action movie cover fool you, this is not generic at all and is a beautiful beautiful film.

It's my favorite film right now.

Also, Wild Strawberries by Ingmar Bergman
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0050986/

Its a geoduck!!! Thats my school's mascott!!!

Movies to watch... um...

Primer. It will boggle your mind. i would highly recomend it.

Dont listen to the boy in drag, bergmen movies are good. I would recomend cries and whispers and seventh seal is nicely juxtaposed to blade runner.

Early peter jackson films- meet the feebles.

I am big fan of Kurosawa's dreams. i would recomend that.

if you want a shocker, check out the audition.

This week I have Watched:

Star Trek Generations - eh
Going the Distance - Terrible
The Cave - Terrible and boring
The Island - loved it
March of the Penguins - Kind of boring but very good
Superfly- awesome
Bullitt - awesome
40Year old Virgin - awesome
2046- Best movie I have seen this year
Animal Crakckers- eh

I tend to watch a lot of movies. oh, also Devil's Pond
which was a trainreck. At this point I do not care wether a movie is really good or bad because i can derive equal amount of pleasure out of both but rather wether it is boring or not.

I just watched A Very Long Engagement for the second time, and I am brimming with joyful happiness. It is such a beautiful movie! It's a tad confusing, but brilliant and lovely and wonderful.

Also, My Architect was indeed awesome.

"charlie and the cocholate factory" was funny.

"jeux d'enfants" i think the american title is "love me if you dare" (i know it sounds sappy) it's a pretty cute, really trippy french movie. it just came out in the US.

That is quite sad I was hoping it would be fantastic and the trailer was just making it look aweful.

Today i watched "I, Robot", Rumplestiltskin, and the Transporter. Transporter was pretty good; dreadful soundtrack though. Perhaps that added to its charm in the end. I, Robot made me very angry. They used so much from Asimov, but so half assed. I think pretty much every one of his short stories I have read could make a good movie, but no I get I, robot. They really sexied up a lot of his characters.

hollywood tends to do that. they like sex. and they like violence. and explosions. and sex. Dialogue is nice to have, as is a feesible story, but that all can be pushed aside for sex and violence. did i mention that hollywood likes sex?

If you can get a copy of it, I HIGHLY recommend an animated movie called Mindgame directed by Masaaki Yuasa (there's several movies under this title.) It's one of the best animated movies I have ever seen. Plus the soundtrack is by the ex guitarist for the Boredoms. It will blow you away, whether it's in a good way or a bad way.

Nope... and I bet you didn't watch anyone else's recommendation either. Threads like this should be about people discovering new stuff but they never are because we're all too busy pontificating about the stuff we already like instead. This is largely how the internet works.

I notice that your recommendation was by Kar Wai Wong - so if it cheers you up any his earlier effort Chungking Express is one of my favourite films.

I've been slowly adding some on here, but i have 1 at a time netflix.

I'll admit I've been lazy, and even this reply is late.

But I'm glad you like Chungking Express, it's one of my favorites too!

Jan Švankmajer's 'Něco z Alenky', 'Faust' and 'Conspiriters of Pleasure' are all among my favourites, obviously, I suppose.

'The Secret Adventures of Tom Thumb', by the Brothers Quay, is pretty decent as well.

Also, I'm a big fan of silent films - you can now get a lot of George Méliès' short films on DVD, which is lovely. Also, The Cabinet of Dr Caligari, Pandora's Box, Nosferatu, the Golem and any Clara Bow film are all worth watching. Oh, and Metropolis is fun to watch.

I don't really see the point in recommending Studio Ghibli films, but I will anyway, in the case of somebody not being aware of them.
