Has anyone seen the info on the Orange Twin site about the eco-community they're setting up in Athens? Amazing.

that info has been up there for a couple years, but it's never updated so i've always wondered if any progression has been made on the land or if there are any cottages built yet. i know they've had some benefit shows for it and part of the proceeds from ot sales go into it, so hopefully they've been able to move forward with it a bit.

I do hope things are moving forward. It's a beautiful idea.

short story...
When I had just gotten into nmh I was looking up information about them and the orange twin website came up. I browsed through it and was amazed at the eco-community. What made it even better was that nmh and now other bands that I listen too are supporting it. I was so happy. I remember running up and down my house. The Athens group played a part in my decision to major in environmetal science/design.
End of Story.

I would love to know about the current status of the community.

I think it makes a load of sense for the e6 guys to be doing this. When i think e6 i think pure love and kindness, probably cuz of NMH but they seem like the kinds of people who wouldnt mind helping out.
i think its great.

I posted this as a separate topic, but in case you didn't see it.... there is an article up about the community at http://www.farmingforartists.com

i have a friend whose going to be going to college in athens, and i have so much resentment for her since her taste in music is absolute crap. however, despite not really liking her, i feel compelled to visit her just so i can check out the community and the artists who make it their haven. i think spiritually and mentally it would be such a positive experience.

Having bad taste is not a crime against humanity. It seems ironic that you would harbor "so much resentment" over this girl's love of Britney or Counting Crows or whatever dumbass music she likes, and still think you would like to live in a close-knit community like the OTCC, where all decisions are made by consensus! You sound more like the cranky hermit type to me.

Or maybe you think the conservation community is less diverse than it is... that it's a bunch of people who all share your precise tastes and inclinations, an indie-rock gated community. Maybe that's what makes you think it would be such a positive experience.

Don't get me wrong, bad taste can be a sign of deeper social conformity and true shallowness... but it's awfully presumptuous to infer that from the standpoint of aesthetic appreciation. People have the right to take something less seriously than you do, as long as they aren't killing anyone in the process.

Okay, I'll get off the soapbox. I'm sure you've heard it all before, and I'm sure I'm guilty of the same in other ways.

But not all of them are musicians, though. Aren't there lawyers living there?

Yes, exactly... It's a very diverse group of people. My general point was that someone who despises a "friend" because of their taste in music probably wouldn't have a grand time trying to get along in a community like that... from the article on www.farmingforartists.com about the whole consensus-decision-making thing it sounds super-hard to do, even if you are open-minded, which this person may not be (though I won't assume it simply from his/her one post).

ok, mabye i should reword it, i dont really despise, just sort of frustrated a little bit. sort of like when your given a gift, you shouldnt squander it type of thing. she's going to athens for like four years, and i think she might overlook this whole music scene completely, and miss out on a very wonderful and beautiful thing.
