I can't wait for the new album! I wish I would've known about the show in Athens... I might have taken a quickie trip down there to go and see it!

i'm really excited about the new album too. I haven't heard anything new that andy has written since the last show i saw with the coast was spring 2002.

I love the songwriting progression from seniors and juniors to the excellent marshmallow coasting, to the even more excellent ride the lightning.

That being said, I don't think there is ANYTHING written ANYWHERE on the internet even describing the new stuff. i wouldn't have even known about the album is not for the misra mailing list.

I had no idea at all until I read something about it here! I didn't even know if Andy was doing any music or not... I was hoping that was part of the reason he dropped out of Of Montreal....

Yay for new Marshmallow Coast!!!

Just checked the Marshmallow Coast website, where Andy states that he's about to get married.

Congratulations Andy!

Andy, Sara and I finished the record up recently, and I just saw Andy and Sara leaving the post office having just sent the master for the record to Misra. New Marshmallows for everyone!

from the misra newsletter:

===========================================
Marshmallow Coast completes "Antistar"
===========================================

Quietly, humbly, Andy Gonzales is making music of sublime sophistication.
His latest opus, "Antistar," is a stylistic relocation to Zanzibar, an
uprooting of the old sound and a refining of the craft he's been working
at for years now. Recalling at times the understated tropicalia of a Jorge
Ben record, but with the bouncy pop hooks of Steely Dan and the breeze of
Donovan, Marshmallow Coast's "Antistar" is a fresh and clever album that
shuns the fumbling attempts of so many bands to recreate a rock experience
long past. Much like the brilliant Magnetic Fields, Marshmallow Coast not
only references a lofty cross section of music history, but does it in an
unforced and natural way.

"Antistar" is due in stores in early November, but we will be posting MP3s
soon and selling the album through our website before it is properly
released.

November? YAY! I was getting the impression it wouldn't be released until the spring of 04....

That's a pleasant surprise!
