the beatles have been my favorite band for YEARS.
recently they had been overthrown by the machine known as OM.

(Any thoughts?)
Yeah . I think too , lets all separate Of Montreal from Beatles(kinda)

if there's ever something called objectivity in music, the first thing to be settle would be that the Beatles are the best band ever.
BUT I enjoy listening to Of Montreal more than to the Beatles. That may be because of the fact that I have listened to the beatles since 14 years now. and because the beatles didn't have the technical possibilities to use and different music styles to borrow from then.

Of Montreal is undoubtedly my favorite band
however the beatles are the beatles and their supremacy is absolute

of montreal is a more exciting listen than the beatles. also you have all those beatles "fans" who will only listen to the beatles and nothing else. Their musical diversity is non existant. One of my friends is like this, it drives me crazy.

reading correctly, i want to infer that mattdq99 was stating that it is the beatles "fans" who lack the diversity and not the beatles themselves for those who were perplexed as i was on first glance.

i don't think we can really say all beatles fans lack diversity, i think it's more that once you discover the beatles it takes you a while to move on to anything else. i know that's the way it was for me, i didn't buy anything else until i owned everything they've done. plus i was young and naive and believed that nothing could ever match that sound, and while i haven't really liked anything better i've found that there are plenty of bands that i can like just as much.

I prefer Of Montreal. Fuck the notion of nobody topping the Beatles.

Yeah, I think that's a pretty good summery of how the Beatles worked for me too. My high school years were pretty much spent absorbing the Beatles and not much else (except early Pink Floyd).
But, I really do think that Kevin is a better song writer than any SINGLE Beatle. I think I would rather listen to Of Montreal most of the time.

Woah now, I didn't want to get into all of this!
I just posted a thought on peronal prefrence.
John, Paul, George, and sometimes Ringo were genius.
I wasn't comparing the two, either.
Just making an observation....

oh, shoot. i was hoping this was going to be one of those "who would win in a fight between..." questions. i'd still go with the beatles, though. Now, if it was a pie eating contest, hmmm...

Mutantes did not exactly have a great stretch did they? One pretty great album makes not a Beatle...perhaps a Hermans Hermit.
So yeah..I be retarded

i can think of at least 5 amazing os mutantes albums + the collaborating they did with caetano veloso on his albums, altogether qualifying as quite a rich catalogue. i would say they are definately comparable to the beatles, but the beatles still win.
shaggs vs kid rock.. yeah we know who'd win
