I was wondering if anyone knew what the lovely people in Of Montreal were up to. Recording? Writing? Other projects? I was just curious. Also, I had an idea to throw out to the members of Of Montreal. I think you could make another tour cd. It could have a few newer versions of some older songs and some covers that you've done live, but not yet recorded. I think it'd be a hoot! I'd buy one! I'd love to have a recorded version of you all doing "Cut Your Hair" and "Hey Bulldog". They were both great live, but a record version would be fan-tastic! Also, some songs like "This Feeling" are much more rockin' now, and a newer rockin' version would be cool to have too. Anyway, just an idea to toss out there. Think about it? Maybe?

I love the tour cd idea, i've still got mine from the first of montreal show i attended.

If I had any requestof non lp material for you to free up from whatever vault of songs you guys have stored up, I would have to say it would be the rerecorded version of Don't Ask Me to Explain from the 100 Guitar Mania Nicki Lighthouse single. I can't get a copy of that, and I love that song. I've noticed that the live version that the band does now sounds quite different from the original cherry peel version, and i'm wondering if that hard copy version sounds like the live version.

Just my thoughts. I love all of you guys. Also I'm at work recording my own little summer album for my sweetheart for her birthday... but it's a seeecret.

that version you mention, the rockin' zoomy kaleidoscopic one from that rare "nicki lighthouse" single, is actually on the 2nd issue of "cherry peel" which found its way into stores a few years ago, and is easily found (it's probably the ONLY version around now, with the old one out of circulation?).

the outside packaging is exactly the same, but the original "cherry peel" CD inside was blue with freaky animals, and the remixed (and in some cases re-recorded) "cherry peel" CD inside was pink with faces on it.

i kept both versions because some of the lo-fi charm of the original was lost when they added extra backing vocals, different bass parts here and there, etc....but then some songs (like "don't ask me to explain") were much improved!!

then I have the new version. but on soulseek it seems the new version has 15 tracks, with track 15 being The hollow room. My cd has only 14 tracks, but still has the pink with faces, on the disc itself.

Hollw Room is from their next album, The Bedside Tragedy: A Petite Drama

That's the first sounds I ever heard by them. I wish I could go back to that point in time sometimes.

ok- i've always had the blue version which is supposed to be the old one, right? all this talk on the board made me want to hear the "newer" version so i went out and bought 'cherry peel' again ans YES!- it had the pink cover. BUT- it was the EXACT same as the blue one i've had and loved for years- no different at all- even 'don't ask me to explain'. does anyone know what gives? also- if anyone has the older version and would like to send a copy my way, that'd be really cool. maybe i can send someone a copy of the newer version who doesn't have it. i wouldn't feel bad about it since we both would've bought the album in the first place. anyone?

weird... i was pretty sure all the new versions were pink... odd.

yeah... i told kevin and derek it was sacreligious to add new instrumentation,
but what can one do. my only regret is that i didn't do my everly brothers
harmony on the end of 'this feeling.' i think they ruined 'baby.'
but 'don't ask me to explain' is better. my mix. ;)
it's a hodge podge really. it definitely needed to be remixed.

there's two versions of 'the bird who ate the rabbit's flower' as well.
'if i faltered slightly twice' has added keys and voices.
'the inner light' has more voices. of course, i prefer the originals.
though there was some suspect subsonic bass happening on the 1st one.
of course the second cd has more tracks. better value!

see.. collecting of montreal is like collecting frank zappa!

a soft high hum sends me levitating... b.p.
