another festive evening of OM glory last night :D for once atlanta turned out a mighty fine crowd to support the band - lots of youngsters (some from out of state it appeared) representing. i hope this bodes well for the rest of the tour.
the stage at the drunken unicorn was barely big enough to give the band room to breathe but jason wasn't playing with them (not going on this tour???); frankly if he'd been in the show he might've had to play on a riser in the thick of the crowd, kicking out guitar solos for the faithful below.
the sound at DU isn't the best and the band got off track for a second during a song or two probably due to this. i got the feeling they may have been a little cramped but they sure as hell wowed the socks off of the lucky souls who came out. as usual with packed DU shows, though, it was almost impossible to move/dance around which was a slight bummer. i was next to or on the side of the stage and wanted to jump up there a few times just to have a minute to bob my head without worrying about starting a domino effect in the crowd.
as far as the setlist: exactly the same as the athens show with one positively thunderous exception: the cover song to open the encore was different and i don't want to give it away so i'll just say it was 'super' and leave it at that. one of the best covers i've seen OM do and one of the best songs to do it.
oh, i also came to my senses and realized that i was mixed up about posting 'girl from nyc #64' as the outro/refrain of the encore - it's actually the end of 'a man's life flashing before his eyes...'. somehow i'd gotten the endings reversed in my head (how embarrassing :o).
and to BP - i looked for the 'ghoul' in the photo and i'm sure it's dottie (kinda blurred and seemingly perched on matt's shoulder) - look for her guitar and you can see the connection. or it could still be a poltergeist too. i think her sunglasses are the source of the ghostly hallucinagin.
i'll post some photos sometime tonight. my PC speakers just busted so it'll be an experiment trying to upload a video clip like last time w/o really being able to preview it.
anyone else have thoughts about the show who was there?
BP said they might be doing some more touring in sept. and while i'd love to see them come back to ATL i might suggest they play another place, although the all-ages vibe is tough to beat. thanks for tearing it up last night guys!
