this might sound like a dumb question but if the release date isnt till the 12th, does that mean will they not be selling the new album before that date at their shows?

They are selling the album at the shows.

if a band has the merch to sell they're going to sell it regardless of any official release date. OM was supposed to have the vinyl of sunlandic twins by yesterday's show time but unfortunately it hadn't arrived yet for some reason. not that it detracted from the show itself ;)

I'm not sure that's totally correct (vacantmoon). They didn't have the album at the two Texas shows, and Kevin implied that it was ready but the record label wouldn't let them sell it yet. I didn't press him on it though.

i was just going on what BP told me. he just said the vinyl was supposed to have arrived by yesterday's show and it just hadn't shown up. and i think the idea was to have the tour 7"s ready as well but they were delayed too.

in general though i've known lots of bands to sell their new album or whatever before any official release date. like OM selling the cd version of 'sunlandic twins' from the cd release show onward.

i've personally never heard of a band having a show with the opportunity to sell a new album but holding back b/c a label told them to wait. i think once at a bardo pond show they told me the label wasn't keen on the idea of them selling their new cd ahead of time but that was b/c it was like 6 weeks in advance or something. but the band did it anway and i'm glad they did.

Sorry about the confusion. You are right about the vinyl. I was just commenting on your statement "if a band has the merch to sell they're going to sell it regardless of any official release date."

I know most bands sell their merch as soon as they get it. I wonder if they had some at SxSW or Houston that they would have sold clandestinely if I would have bugged them enough. I'm not sure if the label didn't want them selling it or if they wanted to wait and start selling it in Athens, or even if they actually had it yet.

i'd say if they had the goods in texas and decided to hold out for the cd release show that'd make sense to me more than the label telling them to. i doubt they would've bothered bringing any merch if they knew they weren't gonna sell it though..

I plan to buy the vinyl at the show. I already have the promo cd. BTW... "is the official" CD packaged in a jewel case or digipak? (the promo is a digipak)
also,
does the "official" CD contain lyrics?
mine doesn't.
