I got a friend of mine with Red Sox season tickets to get me tickets for a concert that Bruce Springsteen is playing at Fenway Park in September. Bruce is one of my all-time favorites, as are Neutral Milk Hotel. Nebraska is one of my all-time favorite recordss, as is Aeroplane. I'm wondering if anybody else on this board really digs the Boss at all, or am I alone in this dual appreciation? My all-time faves in no particular order are NMH, Springsteen, Marley and probably the Lemonheads. Kind of an inconsistent list, eh?
Anyway, just wondering what non-E6 things you guys like.

I like The Beatles, but that sort of fits into the whole E6 thing. I like Simon & Garfunkel & Paul Simon's solo stuff a lot. Can't say that I own a whole lot of other classic rock stuff though. I like a lot of it (Jethro Tull, Stones, Who) but I got sick of it as there were 3 classic rock stations in my hometown and there are two here in LA.

I like Bruce, but haven't heard any of his albums. I had a math teacher who was obsessed with him.

Oh, no, no, no. Don't get me wrong. I can't STAND the "if it's not classic, it's crap" mentality of classic rock radio. And if you're in a work situation where you have to listen to classic rock radio all day, which I have been for many summer jobs, their treatment of great songs can really drain all the vital energy from them because the programming consists of those same songs every single day. There are so many great songs that they could play instead of "Ruby Tuesday." Y'know, like "The Citadel" or something. And how come you never ever hear "I'm Only Sleeping" on oldies radio? Why not play "Sweet Thing" instead of "Brown Eyed Girl" for the 8th time today? This is getting to be too much of a tangent from my initial post, which is just that I like Bruce Springsteen. I'll just stick to that, but let it be know that I think most classic rock radio blows.
Listen to the song "My Father's House" from Neraska. It does the same thing to me that a lot of the Aeroplane songs do, which is make me think, "wait, you can't do that in songwriting! That's not fair! That's perfect!"

I like Bob Dylan alot, the Beatles alot too. I like Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Nick Drake, and The Velvet Underground as well.

I grew up with my parents mainly listening to Classic Rock, so thats why I listen to alot of the stuff I listen to now.

Classic Rock = Rock from the 70's back. 80's music is simply 80's music, and 90's music is simply 90's music.

Rawk = Rock (all hundreds of sub-genres, and sub-sub genres as well)

it is kind of icky to group the beatles, dylan, floyd and some absolutly great bands in with a lot of painfully unpleasant bands, but it's all stil classic "rawk"

and though i'd rather be flushed down the toilet than listen to the local classic rock station (partially because my brothers a dj there and ive heard enough of his voice already), i'm definatly a classique rawk fan.

Well, you could group them into ''Good'' Classic Rock, and ''Bad'' Classic Rock if you wish.

How can you not group music into genres? It makes them difficult to describe..

But for whatever it is my favorite good classic rock is...

The Beatles, Pink Floyd, The Grateful Dead, The Doors, The Who (the earlier stuff), and I've just begun to get into the Velvet Underground (call me slow)..

I don't know, but there seems to be a lot of anti-grateful dead in the indie world.... I am a hippie at heart I guess. But mostly I just like to dance around to it. Its a lot of fun to listen to, especially American Beauty..

I've heard the Grateful Dead..but never actually listened to the Grateful Dead...I'm a wannabe-hippie I guess. I have a Phish shirt but I've never heard 1 Phish song...

Genres are in some ways essential to music.

classifying things is what humans do. there is no escape!

rap, pop, rock, jazz, etc are just the food groups of music, only there isnt a group of nutrition experts recommending daily servings....

If someone asked you what kind of music you like, what would you say?

I say that I don't listen to one type of music enough to answer that properly and I just name off some of my favorite artists.

Genres never made much sense to me. Something just is and you make judgement on what is. To dismiss summarily is a terrible arrogant habit.

sure, but genres are superbly useful things if you dont become prejudice
