I've never ever seen her live, but i think i'd like to. Just thought you'd all (some) be interested..

Although she is (as i've noted you've noted elsewhere) a very gifted songwriter, I will admit that (occaisonally) there are moments when cheese-stuffing is the only solution.

Still, can't fault her for her freedom of expression - it is a matter of taste, after all - and i hear the market for earplugs (for those low-points) is rather splendid and well developed...

Her album was a grower. Her voice was nauseating for the first couple listens, but now I think it's great.

The vocals aren't the same on every song, I like the vocals on every song - but I can see how someone'd probably like the vocals on "En Gallop" or "Swansea" more than "Bridges and Balloons" or "Sadie".

After Jeff Mangum, she's my favorite musician of all time. But, then, there are a lot of similarities between the two...

It has long been my standpoint that nothing truly great is ever immediately appreciated.

I do like her voice. It reminds me of old records.

Another instance where I've got to half-hand it to Half-Handed for hitting the nail on the head - Joanna Newsom's voice is like some candy-sweet nightmare, like Annie the musical BUT the album has been so universally lauded that I can't help thinking there's gotta be something to it.

I still think Bright Eyes is a heap of shit though.

I was just reading a zine called Slave to the Needle and there was an interview with Joanna in there talking about crocheting scarves and making dwarves out of wax in Waldorf school. Also there was an interview with Sasha Bell, who is super crafty.

Joanna Newsom sounds like Jill Carnes impersonating Della Reese impersonating Betty Boop through an oatmeal transmitter.
