I've managed to get my hands on some earlyish recordings by colin meloy, under the name Tarkio, with his band at the time.

And what can I say, it's brilliant!

Anybody else heard these?

i got them from soulseek. the ones available are the full-length, i guess i was hoping for something more, and the ep, sea songs for land-locked sailors. they also had an eponymous ep and a live performance from a radio station on cd.

tarkio is very alt-country. not normally my thing, but colin's songwriting is just so good.

Just a week or so ago when I saw my cousin for Christmas we ended up talking about Tarkio, I was surprised when he told me he was a big fan. He graduated from University of Montana a few years ago and estimated he had gone to "50-80 tarkio shows" in his 4 years there.
