Without going into a long-winded analysis of the two "collectives", is it me or does the Animal Collective sounds highly similar to the E6 camp?

Although the Animal Collective has its own brand of pop sensibility and quirk, their latest disc, "Sung Tongs" reminds me of a mash of Of Montreal, Neutral Milk, Captain Beefheart, latter Beatles, Brian Wilson post-Pet Sounds, Major Organ, Music Tapes, etc... The influences don't stop there, but when I first heard AC's tunes, "Who Could Win A Rabbit" and "The Softest Voice", I heard very strong traces of E6.

Animal Collective might not be as trippy, but possibly, they've been listening to the "forebearing" E6 folk. Even the associative names are eerily similar...

Not so much. And to be fair and respectful to the E6 bands, there is only a few pockets of collectiveness, my fave being the OTC family of bands (Pipes, Circ Syst, OTC, Frosted Amb, BSN, NMH)

But back to my point, I can't think of an E6 band that sounds like AC, nor vice versa. I look forward to future AC albums, as long as they don't tread in the same waters as Spirit They Vanished, Spirit They've Gone and Danse Manate...which are utter crap.

"Who Could Win A Rabbit" sounds like Of Montreal, but besides that theres nothing that close to many Elephant 6 bands. I can understand the distant comparison though. Their other records aren't very closely related to "Sung Tongs" and therefore even a bit less Elephant Six-ish.

I don't really hear any E6 in Animal Collective and I don't really hear any Animal Collective in the E6.
