What's that one song from whichever album that sets the standard impossibly high for the rest of it? Or the single you bought it for. And of course there's no way the record can live up to your hightened expectations.
Elf Power - A Dream In Sound - Simon (the Bird With the Candy Bar Head)
Hootie and the Blowfish - Cracked Rear View - Let Her Cry
OK, so I was young and impressionable, but at the time that album was pretty hot.
I'm scared to buy the new Songs: Ohia CD because "Farewell Transmission" is so amazing, I don't know how a whole album could measure up to this. If you haven't heard it

I can't remember the name of the song, but it's that first track on Beck's Midnite Vultures. It's the single.
I really like that song, but find the album disappointing.

''Jane'' by Elf Power on A Dream In Sound..there were only 3 other songs I liked on the album, but I really liked ''Jane'' more than all of them.

As somebody mentioned before, I'm not proud of all of these, but here are some artists whose full-lengths screwed me over. I bought Harvey Danger's record years ago for that "Flagpole Sittah" song. I still like the London Calling beat and the nerdy clever lyrics and the energy of that song, but the rest of the record blew. Umm, Sebadoh's Bakesale album I recently sold back after dubbing "Skull" and "Magnet's Coil." What else? That's all that comes to mind right now.
Hey, one other thing...I was a member of this board before on a PC, is this a different board on a PC than a Mac? It doesn't recognize me from before.

On the Smashing Pumpkins 'Greatest Hits' album the only song I like is '1979'..the rest I'm not fond of..The only others that come close to that are 'Rhinocerous', and 'Pefect'...Anyway, I traded it in, and copied the songs I liked to my computer.
