Speaking of band names

So my friend and I have had this on again off again band for about five or six years. It's been a rocky road. We started it, quit, started it again, found a bass player, found a drummer, lost them both, quit, got together again with the bass player, dropped the bass player, quit, played a few times as an acoustic duo, quit, and have recently started up again, found a bass player, found a drummer...

Anyway, we called ourselves The Books since our inception, but then last year a band called The Books from NY put out a CD called Thought For Food. We were really upset at this since we'd lived with the name for so long.

I immediately contacted Paul, one of the guys in The (NY) Books and sought his opinion on whether or not he cared if we also called ourselves The Books. He didn't seem to care, but we felt weird about it and tinkered with alternate spellings (the bookes, the boooks, the buks), but couldn't agree on one.

My question now is do you think we should keep our name as The Books, agree on an alternate spelling, or change our name completely? Or do you not care?

Maybe you could just find another name you all like. Sometimes change can be good. Unless there's something other than history contributing to your love of the name. Is it based on something especially important to you all?

I would change it seeing as how the NY Books are becoming increasingly well-known. Unless of course, as the previous person stated, you have some attachment to the name. If you guys do gigs, etc a different name would probably be better.

How about The Novels?...I think if you change it you shouldn't do an alternative spelling..The Boooks would just be bad..

No real attachment to the name other than we've just kind of lived with it for five years. Thanks for the input.

if another band came out with the same name, after i tried to make sure it wasn't used when we chose it, i wouldn't necessarily change mine, if i really liked it. if that other band was starting to be well known, that might be a different story. you guys make kind of rock music though, right. them being more idm or glitchy or whatever might give you a little room to share the same name. or you could use it as an opportunity to come up with a rad new name...
